Leonard Nimoy is Done with "Star Trek" and Acting

Leonard Nimoy is Done with "Star Trek" and ActingSubmit Comment
In an interview with Toronto Sun, 79-year-old Leonard Nimoy revealed that he will not return for the "Star Trek" sequel because he's planning to retire from acting.

"Countless times, I thought it was done," he said about the "Star Trek" franchise. "I want to get off the stage. Also, I don't think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto. He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue."

Nimoy added that his appearance on "Fringe" will be his final. "I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," he said with a laugh. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."

And regarding all those "Star Trek" conventions... Nimoy explained that he has a few more public appearances planned, but after that he's done.

He's earned it.

Dam he's 79?! He shouldve retired way sooner. Guess he took his slogan " live long and prosper" really seriously

wait, does this mean he will not be on Fringe any more? or did he mean his stint on fringe (as long as the show uses him) will go on and be his last acting gig?

They haven't written him off of fringe yet, so I hope he continues working on it, fantastic show.

Leonard-
You were truly one of the greats, you have earned your rest, may you truly be remembered for the great actor you are!

Love this man.

From the day before shooting the pilot episode of Star Trek - he spoke with Gene Roddenberry, concerned that the ears would ruin his career... lol. To giving Quinto his 'space'... nice.

He does have a clock counting down the time (the average man) he has to live. It's kind of depressing. I know he thinks of it. But he's sure given us some of the best moments in Star Trek.

Retire and get some more Pon Farr under your belt Spock. You've earned it. Give the Mrs. the Vulcanian Clit Yank for me Bro!

Nimoy deserves that retirement. A truly great man. And he looks just like my late grandfather. Unique.

3 words....old. man. balls.

In some bizarro, alternate reality, that would read that William " Stick me in there when you can! " Shatner would be done with " Star Trek ", acting and life in general

*sigh*

McCoy died too early. It's like the Beatles. The best one died first.

Don't forget ... he also kicked ass on Mission Impossible, the TV show.

Well, I'm glad that he feels as though his career has been a good one, especially with regards to Star Trek. Most actors grow to hate the characters who make them famous, which I think is rather ungrateful. So I have a lot of respect for Nimoy.

@Higgs1

Nimoy added that his appearance on "Fringe" will be his final. "I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," he said with a laugh. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."

Translation : When his contract comes up for negotiation (provided he doesn't want any perks or more money), then he will stop and his character will be written off or completed.

Sounds like he's pulling a Connery (full-on retirement). He's playing it Spock-smart.

He's a great actor and he's definitely earned his retirement and then some, but it still kind of sucks that he's only making 1 more appearence on Fringe. I really would have liked to have seen him on a little more.

Always leave the audience wanting more.

AshTrey-very well put.

Way to go, Nimoy. You've accomplished quite a lot in your time. Bravo.

Ranger, is that thing about him having a clock keeping track of how much longer he lives true?

He's one of a very group of actors that can do whatever the F they want to do and I will give them a pass each and every time. Him, Eastwood, Nicholson, Newman (before dying) and McQueen (before dying). I'm sure there's others but those are the ones in my head at the moment.
