Lionsgate to Perfect Ryan Reynolds' "Buried" Thriller

Lionsgate to Perfect Ryan ReynoldsSubmit Comment
Ryan Reynolds' "Buried" thriller appeared at the Sundance Film Festival this year, sparking a bidding war among distributors. The winner ended up being Lionsgate. And even thought the movie has been getting excellent reviews, the studio has decided to make some changes.

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Lionsgate has scheduled some additional photography that will add a bit of story to the "exterior" sequences. Since the entire film takes place inside of a coffin, it's likely that the studio felt the need to expand the scenes that take place outside.

Plot: Paul Conroy (Reynolds) is a US citizen working as a contract driver in Iraq. After a swift and sudden attack on his convoy, he awakens to find himself buried alive inside a coffin with nothing more than a lighter, a cell phone, and little memory of how he ended up there. Faced with limited oxygen and unlimited panic, Paul finds himself in a tension-filled race against time to escape this claustrophobic deathtrap before itís too late.

"Buried" is scheduled to hit theaters on September 4th, in limited release. It will then expand on October 8th.

Sounds awful, at least the movie phonebooth provided a view of the surrounding city and its inhabitants.

If a movie gets excellent reviews, why would you change anything?

"Since the entire film takes place inside of a coffin, it's likely that the studio felt the need to expand the scenes that take place outside."

so the film take place ENTIRELY inside the coffin, but their expanding the scenes taking place outside the coffin? where does that make since? add an 'almost' in there will ya' ...

If this makes more cash than thank Kickass I'll be pissed.

@encoreyourface: Good catch, but the film obviously doesn't completely take place inside the coffin. If it did, we would never find out that his convoy was attacked.

Is this movie going to go back-to-back with Danny Boyle's 48 Hours?

Is Lionsgate trying to be the new Miramax or Demension Films ? Make up your mind, Lionsgate!

So a movie is getting good reviews, so you change it? Thats just the most confusing thing ever!

Good reviews don't always equal BO success. An entire movie in a coffin sounds terrible, but I thought the same thing about The Jacket before I saw it. That movie was awesome! Unfortunately Brody can act circles around RR and I dont see any mention of timetravel, so I still have my doubts about this one.

Sounds like Lionsgate is pussing out on the main draw of this interesting-sounding film.

I can positively confirm THE BURIED TEAM IS NOT RESHOOTING ANYTHING. Lionsgate will release EXACTLY the same editing that was shown in Sundance, SHOT FOR SHOT. There is not any additional photography in progress. Thank God, I must say, since I've seen BURIED twice and I find it a fascinating almost perfect movie. You should confirm your news before publishing them. Just saying.
