"Real Genius" and "House Party" Being RemadeSubmit Comment
Pajiba is reporting that Columbia Pictures and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment are developing a remake of Val Kilmer's 1985 comedy "Real Genius," While Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment is remaking the 1990 comedy "House Party."

In "Real Genius," two brilliant teenagers head a team of young geniuses developing a laser for what they believe is a class project. When they find out that their professor intends to turn their work over to the government for use as a weapon, they decide to ruin his plans.

In "House Party," young Kid has been invited to a party at his friend Play's house. But after a fight at school, Kid's father grounds him. None the less, Kid sneaks out when his father falls asleep. But Kid doesn't know that three of the thugs at school have decided to teach him a lesson.

@Doc
Good call that picture will forever haunt my dreams. Thats the same kinda look Dandy has when Coc gets up in him!

two more classics down the drain. FU Ratner!!! Stop trying to ride the black community to the promise land. You lost your Playa card with Rush Hour 3.

BTW, Robin Harris (Kid's dad) made House Party great.

@TT: Too true. Martin should stick to R rated comedy and Bad Boy sequels. He's turning into Eddie Murphy with all this other bullsh*t.

Real Genius is one of the best guilty pleasure 80s movies out there, plus it has the best use of a Tears for Fears song...ever. I'd be open to seeing a remake if all the right things and people were put into place, but it'll probably be junk as usual. My vote would be for Kilmer to return as the weird guy who lived in the main character's closet.

f*ck you.

That's what I have to say to this headline.

@eddie: Not bad idea bringing Kilmer back as Lazzlo. I recently saw the *sshole professor from Real Genius in a LOST episode, and he looks exactly the same. He's still playing the *sshole too.

The original Real Genius was only really funny enough to watch once or twice at best. And House Party just never made the grade as far as movies I actually cared about watching. One time it was on cable a few years back, but luckily there was a large container of turpentine that I could drink my fill from so that I could enter what is medically referred t as a House Party Avoiding Coma...

And both remakes will be even less entertaining then the originals.

Gives me flashbacks of a really bad time in life. I think Kid n play should be assasinated, or given to COC as bondage slaves.

f*ck that. Kid n Play are alright.

Hollywood might as well remake every movie that came out from 1980-1990. Next thing u know they'll b coming out wit a Harry and the Hendersons remake.

Horrible. Just horrible.

And say what you want, House Party 1 and 3 and Class Act still make me laugh.
darthraige writes:

Hollywood is really running out of ideas huh? Must be c*nts running the Studios that have never seen the originals.

@sac

Too true Eddie Murphy's sloppy 2nd's is not a good way for your career to be heading !! Bad boys 3 is his only way of movie salvation !!
Scrooge McDuck writes:

f*ck, Real Genius is such an awesome movie. Why? Why do they continue to do this? It's gotten to this point already? Rehashing a dollar bin, yet fantastic, movie? ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh. Next they'll be remaking Hackers or Masterminds.
