Joss Whedon to Direct "The Avengers"?

Joss Whedon to Direct "The Avengers"?Submit Comment
"The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier recently revealed that he is being considering to helm "The Avengers." He went on to mention that he's just one of many on the short list and that he didn't know who the other directors were.

Now, IESB has learned that the leading contender for the job is none other that Joss Whedon, the creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Firefly" and "Dollhouse." He also directed "Serenity" back in 2005.

This is not the first comic book film that Whedon has been considered for. He was previously working on Warner Bros' "Wonder Woman" film, which has apparently completely fallen apart.

And if you're wondering what Whedon is doing now. He's writing and producing "Cabin in the Woods," which stars "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth.

This is NOT an April Fool's joke.

Definitely APRIL MOP

There's nothing wrong with Whedon. If you don't belive it- get "Cabin In The Woods" script he wrote with Drew Goddard.
Sev writes:

Nothing wrong with Whedon? He's a sh*t film maker/writer, who continues to plague television with his repetative stories about a strong female chick and her dumbass friends. Keep this talentless hack away from something like this!
masKritic writes:

f*ck man the idea of The Avengers movie still freaks me out it seems so fragile and Whedon can't carry it.
sc_kg writes:

Well, with Marvel announcements- there's nothing to get excited. He's on the shortlist- so what?
They had one of those with Fist Avenger and who got the part? Someone who wasn't on the shortlist.

I can easly see Leterrier or Matthew Vaughn stepping into directors boots.

I have nothing against Whedon. Buffy was kick-ass back in the days, Angel was highly enjoyable and Firefly is just pure awesomeness. Really a shame it ended so early. And while Serenity might have failed on the box-office, it's still a very good sci-fi. I like that one more than Star Trek.
johnny_boy writes:

@ sc_kg.... Highly doubt Matthew Vaughn will direct this. He recently stated how Hollywood is dying and how he'd rather do independent films. Not to mention he did turn down directing Thor

Whedons Avengers Script.

Iron man walks in to secret base room.

Captain: "Uh Knock much!?"

Iron man "Omg, there's like totally all these crazy ass robot things outside, like, Oh my God, they're like totally destroying the city."

Captain America: Dude, like cry me a river why don't you."

Hulk: Me like, so angry, like, totally much!!!"

On the lighter side, Adolph Hitler gave it two "surgical thumbs" up, Rogert Ebert could only bleep out morse code of " F****ck " on his voice translator and Gene Siskel ? Well, that guys dead, so he won't have to worry.

You know saying that DC practically gift wrapped the Wonder Woman movie project for this guy, who btw is known for telling stories about strong female leads, and the man couldn't even come up with anything to write for the first page of the script. All he could do was continually stall and make excuses for months and months, until finally when he was confronted about not having anything to show script wise, his reaction was "I got nothing..." If Disney/Marvel is considering hiring Joss Whedon, it is because he's probably one of the few directors that wouldn't get insulted with their cheap low-ball offer. Remember this is the same company that offered Mickey Rourke just $200,000 to be the bad guy in Iron Man 2, and this was after his Oscar nomination and Robert Downey Jr. personally trying to get Rourke to play the role.

does anyone on here know how to do anything but hate? i'm getting to the point that i actually hate to read the comments because its so blatantly cynical for the sake of cynicality. HAS ANYONE READ WHEDON'S ASTONISHING XMEN? some of the best comic writing i've ever seen. and whether you liked buffy or not, it had and continues to have a huge following, and the comics are succesfull. and firefly and serenity are some of the best anythings ever.
lost_addict writes:

the real joke is that movie will never happen after both 'thor' and 'captain america' will flop.
rabid writes:

If it were true, I'd be all for it. I loved Whedon's take on the Astonishing X-Men and even Runaways was good. I'd trust him with Avengers material.
rabid writes:

Ghostomost, you're right. Whedon is a fine writer and director. A huge comic fan too! Everything he creates is awesomeness, but hopefully he's learned his lessons about producing series for Fox.
nope.com writes:

His astonishing Xmen stories NEED to be the ones drafted for that goddamn First Class film they're doing. One of the best runs in comics.

"This is NOT an April Fool's joke."

well now i this it IS one!

"Cabin in the Woods"- the title tells you how crap it's gonna be. probably just another rip off on Evil Dead in some form or another. but it stars Hemsworth, so it may have a decent budget, or they got him cheap and i was right it's gonna be crap.
rabid writes:
on April 1st, 2010 at 3:12:40 PM

Nah, if the X-men movies ever go into space, it needs to be to the Shi'ar empire to meet Cyclops dad.
but that run was amazing. 2nd best next to Grant Morrison's 5 year run.
SACdaddy writes:

Who gives a sh*t about this topic when you got Anna Paquin coming out and admitting she likes a little vagina? No way HBO misses out on the opportunity for her and the black chick to get it on next season on True Blood. I can't wait!

Hey maybe once they cross that bridge on True Blood, they can work something out for X4. Maybe a little pet the kitty action with Shadowcat or perhaps some sweaty Monster's Ball fun with Storm. Hey a guy can dream can't he?!?!
DynoSpec writes:

Couldn't agree more with Freudian Nightmare, Firefly was one of the great new Sci-Fi shows until Fox excecs decided to air the episodes in the wrong Chronological order and at insane time slots...I wouldn't be mad at all if this story was totally accurate and not a joke
rabid writes:
on April 1st, 2010 at 9:33:49 PM

Fox did that to Dollhouse too. And if you watch FRINGE, then you might have seen Agent Francis helping with an FBI raid three episodes after he was killed.

I am not surprised with the hostility from the wp crowd, joss whedon is a outstanding writer/director who takes chances and since he is best known for buffy the vampire slayer a show that glorifies womens empowerment obviously the run of the mill wp user cant have any of that
they would much rather have the director that had the hulk f*cking crying under a waterfall than a oscar nominated emmy award winning director/writer
oh and he also wrote one of the best comic book series in the last five years, not like this is right up his alley or anything
go back to circle jerking over the expendables trailer you 12 year olds

I'd rather see him involved with an X Men movie than Avengers, I liked his run on X Men, at least until he shot kitty pride into space. Is she back yet?
rabid writes:
on April 1st, 2010 at 11:58:07 PM

this week Magneto sat and meditated for days until he found that giant space bullet. He's reeling Kitty Pryde back home. So long as she's intangible she doesn't eat, drink or sleep. And she's been out there for a year or two comic time.
Eben1277 writes:
on April 2nd, 2010 at 12:11:50 AM

X-men should have called Reed Richards, and asked him to contact the Silver Surfer to run out and grab her.
rabid writes:
on April 2nd, 2010 at 12:50:00 PM

The Surfer has been busy working for Galactus again, The FF have been busy with Norman Osborn and Doom, and spent months inside the Microverse. And the X-Men assumed Kitty was dead until Agent brand from SWORD told them otherwise.
Now Kitty's back but she's a permanent ghost from having stayed phased for so long.
