In the 1970s, Mattel released a "Shogun Warriors" toy line that consisted of several imported Japanese toys that were based on a popular anime series. A bit later Marvel adapted the property into a 20-issue comic book.
AICN has now learned that one of the characters from the series, Gaiking, will be heading to the big screen. The rest of the Shogun Warriors will soon follow. The first film is being set for a 2012 release under the supervision of director Matthew Gratzner.
"We are building the robots LIFE SIZE," said special effects artist Jules Urbach. "Matt [Gratzner] is one of the last great practical effects guys in the business who can pull this off."
Urbach also gave the site a glimpse at some CGI footage that was specifically created to showcase the look and tone of "Gaiking." Check out the teaser below, but keep in mind that the final film may not look exactly like this.

The teaser trailer looks good. Having Matt Gratzner onboard makes this movie a thousand times more interesting. The movies he was involved in had some of the best physical special effects ever in Hollywood and he is very competent as a visual effects supervisor. I’m looking forward to this.
