A brand new trailer for the upcoming big screen adaptation of "The Last Airbender," based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, has appeared online. Check it out below.

The story follows the adventures of the successor to a long line of Avatars who must put aside his irresponsible ways and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

The new movie is directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2nd.

Hmmm...still thinks this will be the biggest flop of the summer.

@Freudian...

How do you figure that? It was one of the most popular Nickelodeon cartoons in years and has a big following. And while the quality of M. Night's recent movies might be in question, he is still a big name director that can quickly get people's attention.

And not for nothing, but this trailer looks f*cking awesome. It looks like it's going to be a close adaptation to the TV show with some wicked special effects.

It may not be the biggest movie of the year, but I see this flick making some serious money.

@Feanor224- The same thing was said about Dragonball Evolution. I still have not recovered from viewing that piece of sh*t.

I don't think the special effects look that good. And everytime the kid make some moves and whip out some wind and make the bad guys blow away, it all looks so very silly. Can't help it. And the acting look really stinky as well.

I hope for Shyamalan's sake it won't flop, I would like for him to get on his feet and back to Unbreakable-mode again, but I really can't like the trailer.

@VDODSON - Ugh, just the mention of that name gives me stomach ulcers.

As for this, I think that it could be good. I mean, it was American made to begin with, it was made for kids so you don't have to take it TOO seriously, it's got a bigger budget than Dragonball did, better directing, and better cast.

It could definitely still suck though.

lol ahhh VDODSON... you beat me to it.... i was gonna say the very same thing

its obvious that Feanor is a little fanboy that wacks off to his collector edition avatar (the last airbender) series in his room...

After one of the worst films i've ever seen The Happening, I really thought M. Night Shyamalan would have tried to make Unbreakable pt2 instead he's gone for this , I dont really like to judge a movie on it's trailer but this really doesn't look to good.

He's was once touted as the new Spielberg, any more crap movies like the last couple he's done he could be the uwe boll so fingers crossed this will do ok and then we might get unbreakable 2 ....
Projekt SHIN writes:

and on topic.. this movie looks like a joke... it WILL be a flop...

the slumdog millionaire kid?? as a bad guy? lol there's no way he's gonna be able to pull this one off... he was able to play the stupid idian virgin in slumdog.. but thats only because he was playing himself... horrible casting call and will likely ruin the movie...

and its been quite some time since we had a child play a hero and the veiwers accepted it.. i highly doubt this will make the cut,,

bad cgi (look at the part when he's sliding in a swan faggot pose) bad dialouge... and the main characters voice makes me want to stab his eyeballs with a mechanical pencil... .5 lead

saying this will be the biggest flop of the summer is like when people were saying avatar was going to be the biggest flop

@VDODSON
In all fairness, Dragonball Evolution, which I can't believe is actually possibly getting a sequel (Check imdb), was trying to much to change the story and make sense of the crazy awesomeness of the original show. At least Airbender has a grounded story that can be converted to the big screen AND, as a bonus, there are multicultural races in this movie, playing roles that make sense instead of a half white, half Asian cast that makes no sense. I agree with Feanor224, who ironically has a Dragonball Z avatar, that this movie has real potential as a hit and as a quality movie. Shyamalan has already moved a step up in filmmaking by doing a none suspense film with Airbender. You have to admit, a few years ago, this would have been the last movie you'd expect him to make. He really is going for something different and I believe that he may succeed. Plus, I don't believe a 2-3 minute trailer is enough to judge the potential of a full feature film. Let's just wait and see until the actual movie comes out shall we?

so hoping to like this film, but if the trailer was anything to go by (which it should) it didnt look too impressive, it tries to be too much about the subject whereas the characters are what made the show special and unmissable.

gonna have to watch it but i know im gonna be let down. overhyped by the director,script writer,etc. would of liked to see some respect to nickelodeon and the creators but my guess is they werent involved and thus wont be true to neither the personalities nor the meaning behind the story - the play between childhood innocence and a youth's responsibility.

tsk tsk

"feanor.. you've just been schooled...."

You're a little too proud of yourself even though no one gives a f*ck about your tl;dr comment. Sure, I think this movie looks like sh*t so far too, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. Calm the f*ck down and pick a better way to spend your time.

Hopefully Nickelodeon will be the last Producer to back Knight. He's box office poison.

Agreed with the other posters - his best was Unbreakable. Village and the Aquaphobic Alien (why did they choose Earth-the blue planet?) one weren't awful- but I really don't know where is mind has been since. Come back to earth Knight!

i have to agree with SHIN. The main characters; "Ang"? voice makes me cringe. it may do good as it is based on a kids show and is pandered to youngsters. this, marmaduke and the *shudder* beverly hills chihuahua will almost always make a decent buck because parents will let them watch kid crap even though its horrible/cheap buck kid crap.
otis writes:
on March 27th, 2010 at 12:04:58 PM

I keep getting the vibe they're embarrassed by this main kid- in all the trailers so far, this is the only one that's had him talking- off-screen mind you- and he sounds completely unbelievable.

I'm with everyone else- this should not make back its investment.

My kids are already bugging the sh*t out of me to see this, so if my kids are any indicator it won't flop.
