Adrien Brody was Almost The Joker in "The Dark Knight"Posted: March 18th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
During the casting process for "The Dark Knight," it was rumored that Adrien Brody was up for the role of The Joker. The role obviously went to Heath Ledger, who won the Oscar for it, but Brody has now confirmed that he pursued the part.
"I did," Brody told MTV News. "I met Chris [Nolan] on that. It was an amazing role. Amazing. Heath was tremendous in that, but yeah, I would've loved to have done that."
Asked what attracted him to the role, Brody replied: "It's not one specific thing that attracts me, it's bringing truth to something that had this impact on you in your youth, and basically growing up and have that inside of you — stored away with all the memories you have of it."

Not really sure what the point of these "So-and-So almost played So-and-So" posts is, but Brody would probably have done a good Joker. In all honesty, a ton of actors would have done a good Joker. Heath was good, but his performance wasn't even remotely untouchable.

That's good then he wasn't Joker. You know, when sometimes an actor is meant to play a specific character, and either you watch him before you say or you watch him after you say, that role fits to that character. Ledger played Joker so great that I have doubt Brody would portray a similar performance.

Just how big of a rock would you have to be living under to not know that Ledger played The Joker (as this article reminds us)? There must be kids in African tribes that know that. I'll bet the Monks in Tibet know Heath played The Joker!

It woulda been interesting to see what kinda Joker he woulda played, probably not on par with Ledgers but it still may have been good.

I'd like to have seen that. Brody looks like the Joker without makeup, and he's a serious actor.

I would have bought him as the Joker. Because of the obvious, Nolan might want to consider Brody to pick up the torch if they would even think about bringing Joker back in Nolan's next, and most likely final, Batman film. But Christopher Nolan's comments so far seem to suggest that they wouldn't do that. But it seems pretty obvious to me that Two Face will get a bigger role in the sequel based on Nolan talking about the roles of the characters still alive post Dark Knight as well as the actors who played them. That seems to solve the slight mystery as to whether Two Face survived TDK. Thank you, Nolans. Of course, Brody can always play a different villain. Who that would be is not immediately obvious to me. I'd have to refresh my memory of which villains they've got left. Back soon.
