Oscars: Academy Defends Leaving Farrah Fawcett Out of Memorial Tribute

Oscars: Academy Defends Leaving Farrah Fawcett Out of Memorial TributeSubmit Comment
After learning that "Charlie's Angels" star Farrah Fawcett was left out of the Oscars' memorial tribute, many celebrities went online to express their shock. Jane Fonda wrote: "Where was Farrah Fawcett? She should have been included." Roger Ebert added: "No Farrah in the memorial. They have a whole lot of 'splaining to do."

Some believe that the awards show left the actress out because of her predominant television careeer, but Fawcett had roles in "Logan's Run," "Cannonball Run," "The Apostle" and "Extremities," which earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Now, the Academy Awards is defending its decision, insisting that it's impossible to pay tribute to every star who passed away last year. "It is the single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year," said Bruce Davis, Oscars executive director. "Because more people die each year than can possibly be included in that segment. You are dropping people who the public knows. It's just not comfortable."

Watch the memorial tribute below and see if there was any room in there to squeeze in a shot of Farrah Fawcett.

She wasn't included because of her predominant television career so why was Michael Jackson in there.

Yeah... they're back-peddling in the worst way (oh... MJ was in movies... as was Farrah). They just f*cked-up. They'd look a whole lot better if they just admitted that and apologized. No, Farrah didn't need her own memorial... but the 5 seconds to flash up her picture would have been nice.

Ass-covering losers!

MJ had that crap as horror movie thing, and yeah weather she was in movies or not she should have been on that list, i personaly think they are covering up.

I don't understand why they have to pay tribute to a PR guy? Who the hell cares about PR?

Everyone knows the film The Wicker Man (The orignial not the piss stain that was the Nicols Cage remake)? Well last year the lead of that film and a legendary British Actor died: Edward Woodward. Why was he also snubbed alogn with Farah Fawcett.
The academy has not got a leg to stand on and there is now way we will accept any defence they try and make up here

Not enough time? They frickin went back at the end of showing them with their names then re-showed so of them. I'm getting tired of the Academy.

Where is Brittany Murphys husband, he didn't have a bitch about this? He bitches about everything else..

I was amazed that Farrah Fawcett was omitted on purpose. This seem to be the heartless, senseless, and incredibly stupid. Everbody in the industry should let the academy know their opinion

The In Memorium has so many people in it including producers and writers that I've never heard of. If the Academy says its impossible to pay tribute to everyone and they wanted to include the most memorable, publicly recognizable people (which is completely wrong, the award show is already 5 hours whats another minute or two going to do?), then why is some random writer and producer stuck in there. If Michael Jackson was in there, who acted in like two movies including This Is It, then Fawcett should have been mentioned.

i'd put my farrah up her fawcett ...

i wouldn't except their apologies, because i don't see a reasonable apology in their explanation anyway...they could've just showed a picture or said her name...one second's worth at the VERY least, even if it seemed not right...why should i watch the oscars next year?...it's not like they can make up for their mistake since they can't even admit that they made a mistake in the first place
Lordchristo writes:

So most of you were deeply offended that the Academy missed someone? Because though I noticed it, it turns out I didn't give a half a damn.
Ranger writes:

@thomass - they didn't omit her like they claim due to time... they just plain old forgot.

How do I know? Because it's called editing.

If they needed to add a couple/few people they forgot and time was actually shot... then speed up the slide show. If they're showing 10 people a minute @ 6 seconds each... cut them all down to 5 seconds... and amazingly there's room for 2 more people per minute.

Farrah probably didn't sleep with an old fart or two on the Academy Board.

These dirtbags just screwed up.

they f*cked that up, your are right, why have MJ and no Fawcett?
Rogue17 writes:

Didn't have time?!!!!!!!!!! How bout you cut out the circle jerk on stage for the best actor and actress awards, that would have saved a half hour!
Ranger writes:

Farrah Fawcett made Anal Cancer sexy again.
BREALZ writes:
on March 9th, 2010 at 3:37:56 PM

So they didn't have time for a 2-5 second tribute? Just show a picture of her with the date under it, what is wrong with them. those mere seconds would have saved them days if not weeks of scrutiny. Academy Awards suck anyway.
Ranger writes:
on March 9th, 2010 at 5:42:04 PM

Well, like I say... they only had to cut off a mere SECOND off all the others being remembered and they would have had MORE THAN enough time to include Farrah (and anyone else they overlooked).

Their ass-covering is pretty shameful, pathetic and ineffective (kind of like DDD/COC on Daddy rape, movie night).
