"Mad Max 4" is a Sequel, Not a Prequel?

"Mad Max 4" is a Sequel, Not a Prequel?Submit Comment
Mel Gibson is not returning to reprise his role as Max Rockatansky in the fourth "Mad Max" movie (said that it would be corny if he starred), which is why director George Miller has already hired Tom Hardy (Bronson, RocknRolla) to replace him.

Since Miller was always looking for a young actor to star in the film, it was assumed that "Mad Max 4" would be a prequel. But THR is now claiming that the movie is set a short while after the story detailed in 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" (the third installment), which keeps Mad Max relatively young.

In "Beyond Thunderdome" Gibson was 29-years-old. Hardy is now 32-year-old, which makes him the right age to play Max after the events in the third film.

29-years-old? He looked a bit older then that in the film.

Cyberpunk he was supposed to be in his 40's during that movie for some reason in the time line.

I don't remember them ever saying how old he was in either the 2nd or 3rd films. Its really doesn't matter now that they've replaced Mel. As far as I'm concerned this is just another postapoc movie starring some guy named Max. Mad Max died a long time ago.

Bring on Edge of Darkness so Mel can show Generation G (for gay) how R rated action is really done. Sam Worthington, Jackman, and Bale should sit back and take notes if they ever hope to be half as successful as this legend.

AYTBALL-

the second one was great, the first one alone is the one i'm not to found of. maybe'll watch it again, haven't seen it in a couple of years but i'm pretty confident of my memory.

Doesn't the first film start with "a few years from now"? considering that the films were made between 1979 and 1985, the setting (whether a prequel or a direct sequel) would still be in the past, as sort of a post-apocalyptic 80s, maybe early 90s movie...

They should hire McG to write a script. After seeing hist latest work, i'm sure he's capable of dealing with continuity issues...
