Harvey Weinstein Sends Rude Letter to "Thin Blue Line" Director

Harvey Weinstein Sends Rude Letter to "Thin Blue Line" DirectorSubmit Comment
Harvey Weinstein of The Weinstein Company is a huge character, but you would likely come up with a different word for him if he was writing letters to you like the one below.

Director Errol Morris posted a letter from Harvey to him about his 1988 documentary "The Thin Blue Line." The film went on to become a critical hit, but Harvey felt that Morris wasn't promoting it properly. Read his letter below to get a taste of what it's like to work with The Weinstein Company.

Dear Errol:

Heard your NPR interview and you were boring. You couldn't have dragged me to see THE THIN BLUE LINE if my life depended on it. It's time you start being a performer and understand the media. Let's rehearse:

Q: What is this movie about?
A: It's a mystery that traces an injustice. It's scarier than NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. It's like a trip to the Twilight Zone. People have compared it to IN COLD BLOOD with humor.

Speak in short one sentence answers and don't go on with all the legalese. Talk about the movie as a movie and the effect it will have on the audience from an emotional point of view.

If you continue to be boring, I will hire an actor in New York to pretend that he's Errol Morris. If you have any casting suggestions, I'd appreciate that.

Keep it short and keep selling it because that's what's going to work for you, your career and the film.

Congratulations on all your good reviews. Let's make sure the movie is as successful.

Best Regards,
Harvey Weinstein

You consider this rude? Wow, business etiquette in US must be like one on Sesame Street.
He's a businessman, he needs to sell a product. In Harvey's case the product is a movie.
If you own a restaurant and someone needs to interview your Chef, you will likely want him to speak about how awesome his dishes are and how everyone must try them and not how he came up with the recipe while jerking off to gay porn.

If it wasn't for me, he'd be stuck making Kevin Smith movies for the rest of his life.

"Rude"? It's a business, not everyone is going to play nice and tell you you're a unique snowflake and the most handsome boy in school..that's mom you're thinking of...and you're 10. At any rate, it sounds more like sarcasm to me.

He just simply told him how it is, nothing wrong with that. If you can't take it then get the f*ck out.

Oh yeah anyone think he looks like a retarded version of Richard Mull?

That was nothing more than PR 101 with a hint of sacastic humor. Errol was porbably warned before the interview that it was going to be reviewed and then given suggestions to make it better as they do more. Nothing rude here, just protecting the investment and an attempt to make the director not seem like a babbling idiot in interviews who cannot answer questions directly whiel providing teasers.

I dont see much of a problem with this letter, he's honest and to the point.

Daddy moneybucks is defending his payolla.

Errol should be glad critism wasnt coming from a girl, instead of telling him he was boring she would have been down right harsh.

Besides it was kinda funny.

Well I def think the letter is a little rude, I mean first of all Miramax was just doing part of the US distribution for the film, and were talking about a time where Doc*mentaries did not pull in the kind of money it does today. He's not Errol Morris's publicist, and I would be pretty dam happy to be representing Morris in anyway after pulling out of the most critically acclaimed doc*mentaries of all time (at the time), and remains to be to this day.

harvey was being honest, and blunt, but not rude. I mean was he comparing him to lohan or coleman no. Was he saying go walk into on coming traffic no. He was giving him pointers and giving him kudo's for his work... way to go alex...

yeah he totally chewed that guy out ...

It's one thing to cheerily promote your film on Leno, but on a respectable radio program like NPR, sounding like an advert or critic's quote on a DVD box is just tasteless, and turns a possibly interesting conversation into a sound byte. Does Harvey Weinstein listen to NPR?

Look at that fat f*ck......

And understand the media? BE a PERFORMER?

If the Weinstein Company had ANY legitness to it.... ANY, I probably would've looked at it differently. But no, all I did was just laugh.

That's about the only problem I had with it.

I mean, I already knew Harvey was a pissy little pinche maricon, so that's not surprising.
