Martin Campbell Talks Villains in "Green Lantern"

Martin Campbell Talks Villains in "Green Lantern"Submit Comment
Director Martin Campbell recently revealed that actor Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) will play the villainous Sinestro in the "Green Lantern" movie, alongside Peter Sarsgaard, who will play villain Hector Hammond.

Now, IGN has caught up with Campbell to find out if Sinestro will be a mentor figure before becoming a villain like in the comics. "He is very much like in the origin version of the comic," said the director. "Yes, Sinestro is a mentor, but Tomar-Re becomes a mentor in some ways, and Sinestro goes over to the dark side."

Regarding Hector Hammond, Campbell said the character will be the main villain in the movie, but will be portrayed as more of a victim.

"Green Lantern" will obviously be an origin story, and Campbell has already confirmed that such characters as Abin Sur and Carol Ferris will appear in the movie, as well as previously mentioned Sinestro, Hector Hammond and Tomar-Re. Unfortunately, DC characters from other franchises (Superman, Batman) will not even get a cameo.

You should be, the Green Lantern is tight. I just hope he doesn't get too cartoony.

I don't think I've read a Green Lantern comic (always been more of a Marvel fan, other than Batman) but this movie is definitely getting more and more interesting.

Green Lantern, the eco-friendly hero...
His main villain? Pollution!

I agree that this movie is getting interesting. Seems like the director knows what he's doing in terms of staying true to the material...which I'm unfamiliar with.

I as well was never a DC type guy. Never really did trust a super hero that wore his underwear over his leotard & had to use a utility belt to keep them on. I have to admit this green lantern is getting more appealing...

hmmm, Hector's more the victim, much like Samuel Sterns in the Hulk movie.
I wonder how Tomar-Re will look.
Peter Parker writes:

"I wonder how Tomar-Re will look"

- He'll look like a man-fish in black and green tights!

Seriously now, I just hope they don't do with him something like they did with the Thing in the Fantastic Four movie.
A rubber mask would be an insult!

This sounds bad ass, I need to read up on GL if have forgotten a lot of sh*t about it.

I just cant wait to see the scale of a Green Lantern movie. The possiblity are literally limitless with the ring's powers and manifestation. From an old fan of GL, this film can be better than most of the Marvel sh*t coming out if done right. It seems like all the right pieces are coming together, but it needs to be 3D to fully appreciate the ring.

I've been a big fan of GL since I was a kid. Really looking forward to this. If it's anywhere near as good as First Flight, I'll be happy.

Peter, that's Captain Planet! LOL
I bet Tomar Re will look like Admiral Ackbar.

@ Matiax:

Good thinking!
Only now I can't take the song out of my head!!

Captain Planet, he's our hero,
Gonna take pollution down to zero...

Captain Planet should have a cameo in the Green Lantern movie! They should be best buddies...

LOL!!! China is pulling Avatar "to make room for a doc*mentary about Confucius." Avatar is the most popular movie in Chinese history grossing more than $76mill. Something tells me they have a few other reasons for its pulling. Next thing you know there might be a few 100 million angry Chinese painted blue rebelling against their government.

Well hell yeah. this is gonna be bad ass, and I like the fact that they arent doing cameo's like what marvel is doing, perhaps after they bring out all the major DC characters they will finally do one cameo which will forshadow justice league... But honestly we all know who is in JL so do we really need cameo's of other characters no. Let each one stand on their own, then bring them together for the JL movie..
encoreyourface writes:

good thing they are using Sinestro, he would look bad-ass on screen and was awesome in the comics.

Cyborg Superman would be f*cking awesome but would be to complicated and might have to involve *shutter* Superman ...

How about a Wonder Woman cameo?

And I think you will all agree that this lady will be perfect for the role.
