"Thor" Has Started FilmingSubmit Comment
Marvel Studios has announced that principal photography on the upcoming "Thor" film has commenced with director Kenneth Branagh (Frankenstein) at the helm.

"Thor" spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

In the new movie, Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) portrays the title character with Tom Hiddleston ("Wallander") in the role of Thor's brother Loki, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Additionally, the studio has cast Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Renee Russo as Frigga, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Josh Dallas as Fandral, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Idris Elba as Heimdall, as well as Colm Feore, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6th, 2011.

Hopefully the god of thunder will not dissapoint. I have faith in Marvel to make another solid super hero flick.

Me too NOPE.COM

But the solid cast has my attention. Ray Stevenson was the sh*t in ROME and OUTPOST, and do well as a Viking! Same for Skarsgaard and Hopkins and Portman.

But really happy Kenneth Brannagh is directing! You know it is safe hands then

Wonder how long it'll be before we get a photo of Thor in costume. Hopefully the costume doesnt look incredibly stupid.

And yeah, hopefully they have some sort of trailer or clip to show for comic-con. lol Cross your fingers everyone, the wait begins.

Bet they screw up the outfit, they always do.

@AF - Beta Ray Bill - from Simonson's Thor #337 and on... kick-ass story! I'd hope they would go down that road. That storyline was the infusion a dull, boring, dried-up comic needed (like McFarlane's Venom for Spidey).

If anyone doesn't know, BRB defeated Thor and won his hammer.

- So, they sent him to Newark?

Uh, Natalie Portman. Don't get me wrong she is eye candy, but she is a terrible actress. And can't the Norse God Thor find a romantic partner who isn't 4 feet tall and looks like jail bait?
jeffw1978 writes:

Looking like jail bait makes it that much more exciting...so does them being jail bait.

p.s.
nice pic for the article hahah

@Ranger-when you stop and think, Thor had some interesting storylines that the masses don't know about. Not as good as "Demon in the Bottle" but close.
This has a great cast going for it. Bout as good as "Knock Out"...Ley's hope both movies kick totally ass.

you guys are in for a disappointment on this one
vwkombi writes:

I would love to see a Thor movie based around the actual mythology, dealing with Ragnarok. That would own.

This movie i am a bit iffy about. A guy from Home and Away playing the Norse God of Thunder? But the rest of the cast is pretty good and they have a decent director.
TeemSelami writes:

didn't know Asano was in this, the mrs. will definitely make me see this.
Ranger writes:

@jeff - WORD... lol!

@AF - if Thor's story lines got better than Beta Ray's appearance... then they came out after I was out of comics. But man... did Simonson ever turn that tired bitch of a title around 180 degrees with that #337 BRB story (and his art was nice on the eyes - coming from Conan).

nice cast. cool idea. Thor kicks ass. this is some kick-ass news and i can't wait for this film.

i wonder, will Thor be kinda friendly or more of a dark character? either would be cool.
