"Jonah Hex" Planning Reshoots to Add Story and Action

"Jonah Hex" Planning Reshoots to Add Story and ActionSubmit Comment
Even though "Jonah Hex" has been in post-production since July, THR is reporting that Warner Bros has gathered Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Megan Fox, and Michael Fassbender for ten-days of reshoots in the Los Angeles area.

Apparently it won't all be reshoots; the studio has decided to add another twelve pages to the script focusing more on story and action. Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who) remains in the director's chair, but will be joined by "I Am Legend" helmer Francis Lawrence, who was brought on as a consultant.

It's not surprising that Warners might want to make some changes or shoot additional scenes, since Brolin previously stated that the script for "Jonah Hex" is "awful," but wanted a challenge of doing "the most awful movie I can find" if he could get the right people to join him.

That "awful" script was written by "Crank" filmmakers Mark Neveldine and Briant Taylor, who were initially on board not only to adapt the comic book, but also direct. Brolin eventually stepped in, replacing them with Hayward.

Crank High Voltage was the best movie of 2009!! Much better than Deathproof (Which I liked) and Planet Terror.

"...Brolin previously stated that the script for 'Jonah Hex' is 'awful,' but wanted a challenge of doing 'the most awful movie I can find' if he could get the right people to join him."

I've been impressed by some of Josh Brolin's work, but that statement just oozes condescension. I don't care if he was in a Coen Bros. flick or not - he's not above mainstream projects like this any more than the next guy. Paul Giamatti descended from his considerable acting throne to do "Shoot 'Em Up"? Did the guy ever criticize it? Not to my knowledge. Matt Damon made a guest spot in "Euro Trip"? Remember him berating it? I sure don't. John Goodman starred in "Speed Racer" and "Death Sentence"? Did he ever trash-talk them? Sure, "Jonah Hex" is, for all I know, blatant garbage (hell, it has to be if Megan Fox signed on to be in it), but he, of all people, should refrain from talking about it so disparagingly (at least until the project's definitively finished and the studio's made up its mind on whether to make a sequel - he might just get the boot and get replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal or somebody). Besides, even some cheesy movies have their merits.

Jonah Hex vs Solomon Kane. Taking all bets.

This is starting to sound like a piece-meal cluster-f*ck like The Green Hornet.

When they have to add sh*t you know it is more than likely f*cked.

f*ck! I had semi-hopes for this. Wonder if they will consider it for a "Best Original Screenplay"-award?

Translation, it sucks, and they're going back to reshoot it to make it suck even more.

The Crank movies were stupid as hell, but this movie has a good cast and gotta love a Western so I won't rule it out yet.

So if the script is awful, why attach yourself to the film

Thanks for telling us in advance why the public shouldn't spend any money to see this movie Josh.

You are one hot piece but you need to keep your yap shut just a little.
