Nominees for DGASubmit Comment
Director Guild of American has announced the five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2009. Check out the list below.

"The DGA award is especially meaningful to directors because it is decided solely by their peers - the men and women who have been in the same trenches and know exactly what goes into the crafting of a unique motion picture," said DGA President Taylor Hackford. "The five nominees for this year have each expressed an indelible vision that transported audiences to vivid vistas of cinematic art. My heartiest congratulations to all of the nominees."

The winner will be named at the 62nd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 30th at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

And the nominees are...

* Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)

* James Cameron (Avatar)

* Lee Daniels (Precious)

* Jason Reitman (Up in the Air)

* Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds)

It would be really interesting for 'Avatar' to make a ridiculous amount of money, and then not win any awards.

I'd take money over an award any day!!!

Lee Daniels is definitely the weak link here. His overwrought depiction of the events in Precious, combined with his awkward staging and condescendingly high minded tricks pretty much killed the movie for me. The only thing you perhaps could commend him for was showcasing some outstanding performances.

The Coen Brothers or Neill Blomkamp would have been much better choices for the fifth slot.

I'll be shaking the pom-poms for Bigelow.

Tarantino deserves it, Inglorious Basterds was excellent. Quentin proved he can write dialogue for any point in time, not just the present. Plus, who doesnt want to see Nazi's getting killed with a baseball bat by a guy called the Bear Jew.

District 9 sucked. I'm glad it's not included here. One of the most boring first half-hours of any movie I've ever seen.
