"Avatar" Dominates New Year Weekend Box Office

"Avatar" Dominates New Year Weekend Box OfficeSubmit Comment
"Avatar" continued its domination over the weekend, by grossing an addition $68 million at the domestic box office, bringing its take to $352 million. Click here to read more about the film's impressive results.

And since there were no new wide releases, "Sherlock Holmes" managed to hold on to second place in its second weekend. The Guy Ritchie-directed film grossed an estimated $38.4 million from 3,626 theaters for a domestic total of $140.7 million in its first 10 days.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" held at No. 3, grossing an estimated $36.6 million from 3,747 runs for a domestic total of $157.3 million in its first 12 days.

The romantic comedy "It's Complicated" took in an estimated $18.7 million from 2,897 runs for a total of $59.1 million in its first 10 days.

"Up in the Air," directed by Jason Reitman and starring George Clooney, grossed an estimated $11.4 million from 1,895 runs for the weekend for a total of $45 million.

Never doubted Avatar for a minute. Cameron can look forward to future headaches if everyone keeps expecting his movies to produce Titanic numbers. This is what happens when u knock one out of the park not once but twice.

I havent seen Holmes yet but it looks to be interesting.

I guess this means we are gonna have more Alvin movies.(God help us)

Just got home from watching Sherlock. It was very entertaining, actually better than Avatar, and I'm looking forward to the sequels (cause they are happening).
