Mel Gibson's "Summer Vacation" Film Being Protested

Hundreds of relatives of prisoners in a Mexican jail have protested the expected transfer of over one thousand inmates to make way for Mel Gibson's new action/drama film called "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", which is set to begin filming in March.

The Veracruz state governor, Fidel Herrera Beltran, said earlier this month that he would clear out the Allende prison for scenes for Gibson's second movie in Mexico, following the 2006 film "Apocalypto."

Prisoners' relatives had stopped a 24-hour protest outside the jail in eastern Mexico on Tuesday after the prison's director assured them he had received no orders to transfer the prisoners. They began protesting after they said they saw soldiers taking photos and videos of the prison.

Moving the inmates to other facilities "would create serious financial problems for a lot of the families" in their visits to relatives, said David Estevez, a relation of one of the detainees.

"Vacation" centers on a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a drug- and crime-filled prison, where he learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Have they not heard about the nine year old in prison that'll be using. He's easy bait. If there's any protest needed it's that. Only dandy would love to see a movie about a 9 year old boy being raped in prison.

That'll = they'll

Dandy would love being that 9 year-old boy being raped in prison. He and his Dad play that very game every Friday night when his Mom is out whoring outside the Bingo Hall.

As for these families 'protesting' because they'll be 'inconvenienced'... when the f*ck did they gather their opinion matters?!?!

A 9 year old boy in a drug- and crime-filled prison? Talk about starting early!!!

I like the irony of people demanding their relatives would stay in a specific prison. I can see the signs already:

"This is where they belong!"
"There's no place like prison!"
"Prison, sweet prison!"

Lol, why not just strap all the prisoners down, and blow their brains out. Thats what I would do. It wouldnt be like The Dark Night where everyone was afraid to ignite the bomb on the two ships. I wouldnt of even thought twice, self preservation is pretty damn strong.

@VDOD - only thing about the Joker though... I'll bet he had it rigged so that if one boat pulled the trigger, they both would have blown up. Their punishment for being selfish.

As for this article... I get a kick out of these families thinking that beyond edible food and housing that their family members have any rights at all.

Their bitching is actually not surprising but it is funny.

I've been to mexicobefore. When it really comes down to it isn't all of Mexico a prison? They keep sneaking out escaping to the greatest country in the world.

Mel Gibson is God,if he tells you to f*ck off out of prison and go somwehere else then you f*ck off out of prison and go somehwere else.

He should pull a James Cameron and release a story about saving someones kidnapped pops a few days before release.

Don't see why they complaining. They should be thrilled that their relatives, not only is given a golden opportunity to escape, but a chance to be outside a mexican prison.

And the boy in the prison sounds like an awesome idea. He will experience pain in places God never even intended pain could be felt.

Its Mexico, they've already got financial problems. A couple of bucks from Mel should shut them up real quick.

Just tell he made Passion of the Christ and they'll treat him like a god.

@ranger

...that's a good point. Never realized that, but it does sound like something the Joker would do.

Jesus, can Gibson make a movie without a 9 year old boy in it? People may begin to think he has a problem...

Dandy has fantasies of being that nine year old boy every night as his daddy plows him.

On topic you know once you are in prison I really don't think you have much to say on where the f*ck you go, and if the family is so butt hurt, well then don't blame mel gibson blame the f*cker that is sitting in prison for commiting those crimes....think if they didn't commit a crime then they wouldn't be in there and the family would not give a sh*t.
Jedimax writes:

Really... They things in Mexico must be cheap, if it costs them less to go through that trouble then build a set!
Ranger writes:
on December 30th, 2009 at 12:52:47 PM

@Jedi - Mexico is so cheap... they built Troy (walls and all) for Pitt's movie. It was destroyed by a hurricane (shortly after I got out of there from a holiday actually), so they had to rebuild the same set in Malta (I believe). So yeah... 'Mexico... dirt cheap!' (should be their motto).

I would think that Mel could pay the families a little something considering how much money he made from Passion of the Christ.

Heck, he should have promised to give the prison a new wing or brand new computers or something. That would probably have shut them up.

Wow it's good to see Mexico is hated even more than Mel Gibson. He does seem to be back on top. But I feel obligated to argue the other side since no one else is going to do it. It's a prison. In Mexico. Not a studio. Besides the fact that you are inconveniencing familys of prisoners, you are shutting down a f*cking prison. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. 1000 prisoners being transferred? Mexicans pay taxes too... Think about all the man hours and security risks that would be involved. All for Mel Gibson? Just build a fake prison in the desert, you got the money.
