Discuss: Should a "Magneto" Spin-Off be Made?

Discuss: Should a "Magneto" Spin-Off be Made?Submit Comment
Producer Lauren Donner Shuler has previously stated that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with lots of X-Men films, including a "Wolverine" sequel, "Deadpool" spin-off, "Gambit" spin-off, "X-Men: First Class," and possibly a fourth "X-Men" installment.

Interestingly, the only film left off that list is "X-Men Origins: Magneto" that is supposed to focus on the character as a young man. And even though Fox and director David Goyer have talked about getting the project off the ground one day, "X-Men: First Class" may kill it completely.

Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) recently signed on to direct "First Class," revealing: "This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn."

Sounds like some of the origins of Magneto will be covered, leaving very little for "X-Men Origins: Magneto" to work with, unless it will focus on the character as a little boy, and only as a little boy.

Question: With a young Magneto appearing in "X-Men: First Class" and the fact that Ian McKellen is too old to star in the origins story of the character, should Fox still proceed with "X-Men Origins: Magneto"?

First Class sounds gay.. I use to watch those X-Men cartoons in the nineties and I say bring in that Apocalypse f*ck and make X4 (some how)! He was brutal in the cartoons and would make a sick villain!

I'm with Ari G! Have "First Class" be a series on the CW. Let's see X4!

Honestly I'm tired to X-Men and it's spin offs. I liked the X-Men movies but the spin offs just seem like they are running it into the ground. Doesn't seem like they are being concerned with quality because they know people will keep buying tickets.

The answer is and always has been no
takai writes:

No, they don't. Nobody but the diehard fans care about Magneto or his origins. There should be no thought into an 'origins' movie, especially since 'First Class' will be covering most of it.

Having said that, the only spin off that will amount to anything is the Deadpool one. Everyone working on that project is focussed with staying true to the character, and Ryan Reynolds is perfect for it.

As for X4, so long as it's nothing like Wolverine, it could be good.

noooo, when has this movie ever been a good idea? And the more time passes the idea steadily becomes more sh*tty.

Wolverine is one thing. but magneto can go f*ck himself

why is everything an origin story know. Xmen 1 done it perfectly just that one great scene of magneto in the concentration camp.
just make xmen 4 with singer directing

Screw First Class and make Magneto instead. Magneto is, by far, one of the most complex character in the X-Men universe. Singer showed us a glimpse of Magneto's childhood, in the first X-Men, and that was the best part with that movie. It also gave us a hunch why Magneto became a villain. I would rather see them expand that story, than do any of the other mentioned movies (except Deadpool)
Amrstation writes:

No spin-offs should be made!
Bigcheese writes:

I think make this instead of First Class. Magneto's backround is really intresting, and first class will just be HP & Half-Blood prince with mutant powers.
burpie writes:

Magneto is just a nice character and that doesn't mean he could fill 90 mins on the big screen. What would they like to tell us about him? Gypsy past? Meeting Prof.X in Israel? Fighting Nazis? Bringing up Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch? Sorry, but do we need more and more comic characters introduced just to throw them away?

Don't really care about Magneto. In the comics he's cool. but a movie version? We have to sit there and look at how he got started, why he became bad, why he hate humans, bla, bla, bla,.

It work worked with Wolverine, cause not many people knew his history.
crimsonshaft writes:

Watch the first part of the first movie in super slow motion and there is your origin movie.
ksplatt writes:

X-men was cool when you were little. The movies suck. I love the cartoon that was on Fox or w/e channel it was on, it kicked ass. But the movies really were just, well...GAY.
HOCK writes:

I think they need to do the right thing and give us another x-men movie and do it right. Forget this first class stuff and spin offs. X-3 isn't the way it should end.
kweiskristen writes:
on December 27th, 2009 at 1:52:38 PM

No?! You already saw how Magneto got to where he was in the beginning of the very first X-men if they wanted to make the spin off good at all they would have to have the same actors and work around the story line they put out in the first X-Men plus they already have enough spin offs and sequels to keep them busy for a long time
PhantomCloneInX writes:

I'd rather see X4 than any of these origin/spin-off movies. The trouble is that X3's ending caused a lot of problems: supposedly killing off Xavier, killing off Cyclops and Jean Grey, curing Rogue of her powers, and supposedly curing Magneto of his powers, as well. Honestly, if the ending of X3 is showing that the "mutant cure" didn't really work, then what was the point of the whole f*cking movie? I'd rather see Bryan Singer or another decent director make an X4 and fix the mess that X3 was than go backwards and see how every mutant came to be.

Magneto's story should just be contained to First Class. It would be nice if they'd introduce his 3 kids. They can't tell much more of his origin story because Marvel owns the film rights to Hydra.
I'm more interested in seeing Xavier and Cain growing up. But please, no more British actors for Xavier. He's a New Yorker!

Now that Singer is attached to direct, I'm pretty excited about seeing First Class. The First Class comics started off pretty terrible, but they got so much better as time passed.

Hmmmmm, this is a very interesting character and by far one of the most dramatic and complexed characters in the X-Men Universe.

I'd rather see Magneto than First Class.

And contrary to the factor, Magneto's character background can beautifully be more than 90 mins of badassery.
That small scene in X-Men, was just a small flash back, something bigger to expand on, which Magneto definately needs his own film.

Also more people know Wolverine's backstory than Magneto, but alas only die-hard fans will care for this BUT and here is the big BUT...just the title X-Men will sell this and since, Robert Pattinson has portrayed a major interest in playing Magneto well then, there are 2 big selling points right there.
