"Hawkman" Comic Book Movie in the Works?

"Hawkman" Comic Book Movie in the Works?Submit Comment
DC Comics' character Hawkman is set to appear on "Smallville" in its 2-hours Justice Society episode on January 29th, but according to Pajiba, the character could also end up on the big screen in his very own movie.

The site goes on to say that Warner Bros is looking to make Hawkman into a franchise and describes the movie as part "Indiana Jones," part "Da Vinci Code," and part "Ghost." The new movie is currently out to writers.

Hawkman's origins via Wikipedia: In the days of ancient Egypt, Prince Khufu is engaged in a feud with his rival, the Egyptian priest Hath-Set. The priest eventually captures both Khufu and his consort Chay-Ara, and kills them. Millennia later, in 1940, Khufu is reincarnated as American archaeologist Carter Hall, and Chay-Ara as Shiera Saunders. Using the properties of "Nth metal" to craft a gravity-defying belt, Hall creates wings and a costume to become the first Hawkman.

I could see a Hawkman movie working well. Part Dark Knight/part Stargate. I'm very interested to see how they handle it on Smallville.

Despite that its woul;d be interesting for Hollywood to get this off the ground...did they read that wikipedia description...it just sounds like a god awful b-movie...

But the little links could make it work like styling it like Indiana Jones and Da Vinci code, but then flying man with wings will make it too campy.

Lol @ Trueman "Flying Tits" Yes!

The only way I can see this doing well is if they go with the Hawkmen CGI from Flash Gordon. That would kick ass!!! Put the Queen music behind the action parts and you've got a winner!

Stick to the animated flicks or let the guys who do the animated flicks handle the live action. Cause they're the only ones who get it right.

I think the problem is that DC are looking to push as many characters to the screen as they can to keep up with Marvel. Films have much more of a wider audience than comics and if Marvel starts to interest people through their films to go and pursue the related comics then they may have an adverse affect on DC's comic sales.

''Warner Bros is looking to make Hawkman into a franchise and describes the movie as part "Indiana Jones," part "Da Vinci Code," and part "Ghost."

Does that mean Whoopi Goldberg has a role cos it sure isn't Swayze.

Although of course DC are justing looking to make lots and lots of money as well!

Swayze is one of the few actors that actually has retired.

wow they are really sinking into the 99 cent section at the comic book store for ideas. nobody gives a sh*t about hawkman. its bad enough ther are making Ant man! remake fantastic four before sinking any funds into this piece of sh*t character.

Even though one is DC and the other two are Marvel... well said though... I agree.

f*ck this sh*t. Hawkman? What's next, a PowerGirl movie?

There was a special limited edition of Marvel characters vs DC characters a few years ago which was very interesting.

Some DC characters also had special appearances in Marvel comics, and vice-versa, with epic short confrontations like Spider-Man vs Superman, and Batman vs Hulk.

Something like that in a movie would be very interesting, to say the least.

DC can't get Superman right. Like they cuild do a crossover any justice, no pun intended. They only lucked out with Batman because Nolan has some serious talent. They can't do that for Superman? Instead, we get some guy that looks like the the back of a quarter come to life.
rabid writes:

DC has Superman more than right, it was the dipsh*ts at WB that greenlightes that script. Would DC have had to give them permission to give Superman a son? I'd think they would have to, but I can't seen any reason that they would.
minkowski writes:
on December 22nd, 2009 at 10:18:22 PM

Yes, I meant WB, not DC. And yeah, DC has a lot of control over the look of the film. WB has the rights to make a Superman movie, just no rights to make whatever they feel like making. So DC had to sign off on that sh*t. And look, DC gave Batman a son, in one of the worst series of comics I have ever read, so I'm not all that surprised by the debacle known as Superman Returns.

"part "Indiana Jones," part "Da Vinci Code," and part "Ghost"

Hell of a mix. But mixing isn't always a good idea. For example: I like booze and I like guns. Mixing them would be stupid.

Im just not that interested in a hawkman movie.
Sounds boring.

Giving Batman a son made total sense. I loved the Damien storyline. Even Grant Morrison at his worst is still good reading. It was only crappy because Kubert couldnt keep up with his storytelling style.

I could actually see a Hawkman film working, so long as they found an interesting way to do the wings, so they dont look like a HAlloween costume attachment. His origin story is actually pretty involved for a comic book character. Something between Indiana Jones and Stargate. I could even see a prequel (similar to the Scorpion King) that would show Hawkman, the Spectre, Dr. Fate, and Black Adam in ancient Egypt.
