Alex Cross Franchise Being Rebooted

Posted: December 17th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Alex Cross Franchise Being RebootedSubmit Comment
After two Alex Cross films, "Kiss the Girls" and "Along Came a Spider," author James Patterson (who Stephen King called "a terrible writer of dopey thrillers") still owns the rights to his novels and is currently hard at work at rebooting the franchise.

Patterson is independently setting up "Cross" through his production company and will make the new film an origin story, focusing on the titular detective in the very early years of his career, on the trail of his wife's murderer.

Patterson has already co-written the screenplay with Kerry Williamson (scribe of Darren Aronofsky's untitled heist thriller), and is working with producer Lloyd Levin (Watchmen, Hellboy) and Steve Bowen. No word on whether Morgan Freeman, who played Cross in the two films, will be involved in some way.

The two films almost doubled their budgets in worldwide ticket sales, but is another Alex Cross film necessary?

I'm with the Swede. Hell no! Had no problem with Freeman, but Kiss the Girls was just some piece of sh*t riding the Seven wave to the bank.

No film is really necessary, but I know Patterson still has fans that enjoy his "dopey thrillers". If they're not using tax money they can film whatever the f*ck the want:
Little Miss Muffet and Little Miss Muffet 2: Turds and ...

They should reboot the Driving Miss Daisy franchise with Shia Lebeouf as a young Hoke (tastefully done in black face) and Megan Fox as a smoking hot Miss Daisy. The movie ends with them having sex in the car.

Honestly, who do you get to follow-up Freeman? He was solid in these movies, like the store or not.

I wouldnt mind seing a good investigative thriller. But no prequels especially since we know how its going to end.

Freeman's far too old now. He was almost too old to begin with, though he was still very good. Jamie Foxx would be good.

If you're going to adapt an awesome character from a book, use F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack. Adapt the f*cking 'The Tomb' into an action adventure. Forget this James Patterson malarkey. The guy cannot write worth a damn.

Makes no sense. How are you going to let a franchise lay completely dead for 8 years and then decide to reboot it? It seems to me that someone should have tried to CONTINUE it before it was necessary to 'reboot'(which is actually a word I'm really f*cking tired of. Try writing original scripts, dumb f*cking hollywood people!!!! ).

So true darkraven28!

How can they continue the franchise? They would have to find a 50-60ish year-old Morgan Freeman replacement. That's a pretty tall order.

Ok i don't get this cause consider the fact, they are starting with CROSS, which despite is a sequel is fairly easy because the story acts like a prequel.
So technically this isn't a reboot, they are just going to continue the franchise, from the book that works most logical to reinvent the franchise.
But they will have to most definately get a younger person, i don't see Freeman, coming back.
Would have been pretty wicked though if they continue on with Jack & Jill.

Along Came A Spider was a massive disappointment compared to the novel.
