New "Star Wars" Movie Accidentally Confirmed

New "Star Wars" Movie Accidentally ConfirmedSubmit Comment
"Star wars" is clearly here to stay. We've been hearing about a new TV series for a while and back in October a rumor started going around that George Lucas was working on a new "Star Wars" trilogy.

Now, Thomas Dolby, who co-authored George Lucas' "Howard the Duck" theme song, updated his blog with a few words about his visit to California, confirming that a new "Star Wars" movie is in the works.

"My host is friend and former collaborator Paul Sebastien, who over the years has worked for Xbox, Playstation, and now LucasArts," Dolby started. "Last night he was telling me a little about the forthcoming Star Wars-related TV show, movie and online games — very cool indeed."

He added: "I'm not a huge fan myself but it sounds like Mr Lucas has got his head into a good place. I met him several times when I was working on a movie in the 80s called [name suppressed to protect credibility!] and he's a decent chap, but I could have done without the last three SW movies."

According to these comments, there is no question that Lucas is planning a new "Star Wars" movie and apparently it was a big secret since Dolby has updated his blog again in order to retract his statement. He claims it was all a big misunderstanding and that his friend is "very professional and discrete, and would never leak confidential secrets, even to a close friend."

Don't act like you're surprised. We all knew this was coming because we all know that Lucas is a greedy money whore.

i hope its not another CG movie. if anything i think i would be most interested in an "apprentice" movie or my personal fav. a boba fett movie...

As long as its not another CG movie like The Clone Wars, I'm in. I hated The Clone Wars, but I really enjoyed the prequels. Yes, I really did.

I remember reading somewhere (might've been on here) that Lucas was thinking about using the same technology as Avatar if that movie hits. That seems like the logical next step for Lucas after the prequel trilogy.

If it's a continuation of the original trilogy (as in Episodes VII, VIII and IX) I think that'd be great.

And all this talk of Lucas being greedy is a bit much. I've always maintained that he didn't make the prequels out greed or creative bankruptcy, he made them because fans of the original trilogy had been so passionate about seeing those first chapters that he decided he had to make them.

He may not be the most versatile director in the world (I love him, but he's really not) but he has done what few have: he created an entire world with a history and culture that has spawned a universive of film, literature, comics, and games that spans thousands of years with millions of characters.
That's pretty impressive to me.

If they know what is good for them (Lucas and company), they'd try to translate Kyle Katarn to the screen.

The idea of a Boba Fett movie isn't bad if they get a good writer. Judging by the last 3 Star Wars films, that's unlikely.

Why the hell not. It cant get any worse than the last tree, and maybe, just maybe he has an idea that brings back some of the old magic the first tree movies gave us. Lucas have to have a a brain...I think...and if he is aware of the mistakes he did inn episode 1,2 and 3, he might have something exiting up his sleeve.

Then again if Lucas directs it and or writes the actually script we're in for another f*cked up and sh*tty trilogy.

You have my agreement Freudian. The second batch was an abortion of a trilogy. Great CG, awful, awful characters. The best guy got killed in the first film! Sliced in half! Then you had Jar Jar Binks and Christiansen's wooden, morose and entirely lacking acting, and Natalie Portman's lugubrious performance, never mind the stifling love affair that never went anywhere. Three film with boring action, wooden dialog and an off-kilter romance that featured a Skywalker throwing temper tantrums. Uggg.

The first three films are far, far better. They are cinematic masterpieces, BUT I don't care for them. I've seen them about once a piece and I have no desire to return. There's nothing there for me. Well made, excellent characters, good acting and action but they're just n9ot my kind of flick. Not the kind I watch over and over again. They're just too simple, too shallow.

I think Lucas should hand over the reins to some good writers and directors and let them continue the Star Wars mythology. Let's see some new Jedi's and Sith. That's what I want to see. Lucas proved with Ep 1, 2, and 3...that he has lost his f*cking mind.

Character-driven... and as it may have been a loooonnnggg while since you've seen them, you may have had a different memory as to what 'good acting' was. Don't get offended Stig. I'm not looking to piss you off or anything. I admitted that they're masterpieces, but they just don't...resonate with me. You know? I mean, did you ever see Primer, The Fountain or The Jacket? Did those movies resonate with you? Probably not. And that's ok. I love those films, and I loved Mothman Prophecies. I loved Felon. badass movie! But those aren't for everyone. And I'm cool with it. I don't want every and all people sharing my favs because I like to think they are mine and mine alone. So no worries on the Star Wars stuff. Great films, excellently made, great characters and SFX, even for now, BUT, they just aren't my kind of thing.
minkowski writes:
on December 10th, 2009 at 12:30:46 PM

ranger, that was probably me. Most people don't speak out on Star Wars because they don't want to get castrated. And yeah, the first three didn't have the absolutely greatest acting of all time for sure, but they are light years away from from Christiansen's abominable roles. If they had removed him, changed the pace of the prequels and got rid of Jar Jar, the last three would've been better.

And yeah, the prequels have measurably worse acting. McGregor was good, for sure, but its a stretch to give anyone else much credit. Even Jackson snoozed through the damned thing. And the first three had excellent, lovable and memorable characters. The second three did not. And that's where Lucas failed IMO.
RickyGabrielBird writes:

Lucas has lost all credibility. I doubt his ability as a director today.

With every new product associated with Starwars (Film, TV, Toys), the original trilogy loses it magic bit by bit. Great way to to destroy some good work George.

Mink:

that's cool...no offense taken...world would be a bit boring if everyone agreed about everything...I can see what you're saying.

Rocketman:

I agree that Lucas should hand a lot of responsibilities to other people who are talented in those areas...clearly he can still do the intense and entertaining space/lightsaber battles and that has always been his thing, but we all know what happened when he tried to write a coherent story...or even sentence for that matter. I would be hesitant to do three more because even if they are solid they wont have that magic that i love about the originals ya know? That kind of X factor that made the originals special would be really hard to replicate in today's world where new and fancy FX come out every other day and sci fi has fallen into a rut...does that make sense?
But I guess the new Star Trek improved on the old ones but that's not quite the same situation...

RickyGabrielBird writes:

Now there is a film I would not mind watching again. As Mink says, each to their own. I can appreciate a movie even if I do not like it. Sometimes you have to see it for what it is and not how you perceive it.

minkowski writes:
on December 10th, 2009 at 1:35:05 PM

He denied they were making it, perhaps, but he never denied that he had more movies in mind at some point. OTOH, Lucas repeatedly denied that he had another trilogy planned for what occurs after ROTJ. He flat out said, "the story ends after ROTJ". Almost his words exactly.

Now, you can disagree with me, and I'm fine with that but you can't disagree with what the man himself has said. Even as late as 2008, he said he has nothing planned whatsoever for a third trilogy.

Now that doesn't mean he won't, but because of his own words I have enormous doubt. If I had to put money on it, he's looking at another CG film. The first has made some money in the retail sales market, so I think because they aren't vastly expensive, the profit margin is there for him to take.

In fact, many people are taking this 'movie' comment as either a typo or a simple misstatement. People see the word 'movie' and they're jumping to conclusions that Lucas is gearing up for a third trilogy. Well, I'll see it when I believe it.

"You can't hold a man to something he said ten years ago."

He said it last year, in 2008, rabid. last year, not ten years ago. I don't think you even looked at the link in question, much less read it. Another case of believing what you want and damn the evidence. Reminds me of Christians. They just believe whatever suits them.

It ain't gonna happen, buddy. Maybe, MAYBE after he dies, but more than likely that will get tied up with his estate making the calls just like with Superman. So yeah, it might happen 'one day', but you won't be alive to see it.

I didnt look at the link because I already read it weeks ago when the 3D star Wars article was on here. And I'm quite aware that he denied last year. As I said in one of my other comments, he denied it just last month.

My point was that even if they are making a film, Lucas will deny it until the moment he's ready to announce it. He's a very secretive fellow, as David Lynch was explaining.

star wars had its moment in time...no matter how hard lucas keeps trying, it will never be the same as it was then...in fact, i remember when 'revenge of the sith' came out...i thought we'd see anakin skywalker in a darth vader suit fighting some jedi...and man did everybody get raped on that one...just a lousy scene and an overdone 'NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!'...i remember how i reacted when i first saw that at the midnight showing...i laughed so hard, i mean i felt bad because other people were looking at me and thought i was a sick bastard lol, but i was just laughing at how poorly executed that level of acting was, i felt this confirmation of closure that there was just way too much hype built up for episodes I, II, and III...it's like they were trying to convince smart people that the newer star wars was better than the older ones...and now they're trying to convince people again??

i'd still choose a gazillion star wars movies over hearing any kind of mention of a twilight film or book ever again.

btw whats the chances of this one being in 3D?
FFantasy1984 writes:

The orginal three are considered classics. I personally am not in love with the, but I've seen worse. But if Lucas keeps this up he's going to make the entire Star Wars series into a joke. Those three included.

BTW, off topic, i'm really pissed about the new nightmare on elm street...because now they've made freddy look like jason in friday the 13th...and i'll explain....first off, they remake halloween, and then part 2 comes out, michael myers imagines his mom telling him to kill...we've already seen that in the original friday the 13th movies....2nd, freddy is now considered a victim getting revenge on these parents' kids...it's like they took from friday the 13th, the part where all the kids tormented jason before he drowned and became what he became, and integrated that into the new nightmare on elm street for a supposedly new twist?...anybody else here still convinced that the new freddy will be better?

Marketsaw, the folks who worked on Avatar, leaked that they had done mockups for Star Wars 3D. They said he was interested in translating the original films to 3D with the possibility of new ones.

Yes to a new movie, and a big f*cking yes to less CGI. I know George, you can make cities with computers, you can make them look magical....but it is not as magical as building the sets from scrap and actually hiring people to dress up as clonetroopers, instead of hiring the one dude and make the whole army CGI!

The Battle at Geonosis in EP2 may have looked epic to you, but when everything is CGI except one black dude with a CGI purple lightsaber (S.L Jackson bitches!!, it makes the 501st being killed by some real life Teddy bears seem epic!!

"Tell you what would be cool,a series of one off film set in the SW universe.A random sith film here,a bounty hunter film there all done by a different team, each with its own take on the world of SW.Tarantino doing a ganstery Bounty hunter film? Ridley doing a Trooper film? Spielberg doing a Rouge Squadron flick? etc now that i would love.
David Fincher doing a Sith Wars epic? man i could be here all day"

LOVE IT...hahaha this would be great.

As a kid i loved Star Wars, but as i grew older their flaws really started to show. The original trilogy i found good, not great. But that prequel trilogy is horrible. Maybe Lucas can do a new trilogy and bring back Luke, Leia and Han to fight a brand new Empire.

P.S
f*ck Ewoks. I hate those stupid little things.

I am giving away my age but I remember there was an Ewok song back in the 80's. Not a children's song either.

The only thing I care to see would be a prequel to the prequels. Perhaps showing Yoda and Palpatine as younger dudes. Or showing the big Sith vs Jedi battles. Um, or whatever.

DIE Lucus, f*ck off and die.

I'm a huge SW fan. Saw ESB and ROTJ when they were released(in the 70's and 80', not the "re-mastered crap) as a kid.

The last 3 were sh*te. ROTS is the only one that came close to being bareable.

Why? i ask! Why just piss all over our childhood memories more Lucus? I used to like you. I used to think you knew what i liked, that you made your films for us. But no, you just show yourself to be a money grabbing whore like all the others. f*ck off and die.

N.B. Think we will get a new special edition, directors cut, with knobs on version of the prequals before any new film comes out?

Noone is pissing on your childhood memories. You can still rent the original trilogy at Blockbuster. Noone says you have to watch the others.
Star Wars may not be perfect, but other than Star Trek, there's noone else out there doing sci-fi serial films. And Lucas definitely does it better than Star Trek.
