"The Hobbit" Casting to Begin This Week

"The Hobbit" Casting to Begin This WeekSubmit Comment
Both Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro have previously revealed that they know who they want to play Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit" prequels. They were waiting to get the scripts before approaching anyone.

Now comes word from Jackson that wide casting on "The Hobbit" will begin this week for each part except Gandalf, which Ian McKellen will reprise. "What we've done over the years is discover a lot of interesting actors," said Jackson. "So if you start looking and auditioning seriously, it's amazing what incredible talent you'll find out there."

Rumor around the internet is that Jackson already approached James McAvoy to star as Baggins. When asked if this is true, the producer/director repeated himself: "Apart from Ian McKellen, we are not really offering any roles to anybody until we've done a casting sweep."

He added that he doesn't feel any pressure to cast a known actor, even though this is a highly-anticipated, big-budget film. "(These movies) have never been a star-driven vehicle. The star is (author J.R.R.) Tolkien and the world he created," said Jackson. "We are not under any pressure. We want to find the right people. Casting someone to portray a hobbit is not as easy as you might imagine. [We've] got to find the right people to play them, the right humans to translate these characters."

God, just please make these films. Get it over with.

My scientific mind rebels when I try to enjoy a film filled with elves, dragons and magical rings.

i am really worried that this is becoming way over hyped and discussed and it will end up being a let down. i like the LOTR films but this is starting to piss me off...

i'd mock him about that but he's probably into that sort of thing and is enjoying it...and i dont think he needs anymore encouragement...

Dandy is still waiting on a callback from Little Richard Incorporated. Apparently, they might cast him as gay wrestler outed by the sport he loves most. It could be a real tearjerker if done right.

Vin or Dandy whatever you are today, here is you chance to be the gay hobbit love slave. (You disgust me.)

"I need to get my little ass in plane... FAST!"

Gary Coleman can fly carry-on rate as he fits into the overhead storage compartments.

And sorry dandy, when you're offered a 'bag of nuts' on a plane... it's not what you think.

As for these Hobbit movies. I'm neither holding my breath, nor will I pay to see the in the theater. I'll await it's appearance on the movie channel.

Peter Jackson knows what he's doing. He did a great job with the LOTR series and I'm sure he'll do great on this too. And with Del Toro directing, the costumes and other monster will look great based on the two Hellboy movies and Pans. Should be a great movie.
