New Jack Ryan Film Will Not be an Origin Story

New Jack Ryan Film Will Not be an Origin StorySubmit Comment
During the "Invictus" press conference, producer Mace Neufeld spoke about the next installment in the Jack Ryan franchise, which already includes "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Sum of All Fears."

Neufeld said that the new film will not be based on a Tom Clancy novel, but will instead be an original screenplay. And while the plan is still to find an actor to play a young Ryan (Chris Pine is in-talks), this will not be an origin story.

"We pick him up when he's on Wall Street," said Neufeld, "...[but] the Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They're kind of 'thinking man's thrillers.' Jack is referred to as a 'water-walker' because of his ability to jump ahead to conclusions. That's very big in all the Jack Ryan films and that's how we want to portray him. He's a teacher. He's a historian. He's a linguist. And he's really smart."

The first draft of the script has already been completed by Hossein Amini (Killshot) and a rewrite by Adam Cozad will soon begin.

Hey Jeff, is that your brother in the pic, shooting the meat cleaver guy?

On topic:
"He's a teacher. He's a historian. He's a linguist. And he's really smart."

And then Neufeld added:
"His favorite color is pink. He loves fashion... And I'm gay."

Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin were nothing compared to Ford's Jack Ryan, I think Chris Pine can live up to to it better than Affleck for sure. But yes Patriot Games is the best one.

Chris Pine? The guy that can't act and has the skin like a snake? As Jack Ryan?? Oh dear god.

@Mink, Ari

Hunt for Red October is my fav, but Harrison Ford will always be Jack Ryan!

Hunt For Red October (Connery, the Russians sub captain with a thick Scottish accent)

Patriot Games

Clear and Present Danger

Sum of All Fears (Wasn't that bad, i think Affleck did well as Ryan)

Connery dialouge in THFRO

'The west trembled at the shound of our rocketsh, now they will tremble at the shound of a shilenshe!'
