Ben Kingsley to Build the Taj Mahal in "Taj"Posted: November 26th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Ben Kingsley won an Oscar for "Gandhi" and was nominated for Best Actor for three other films. Since then, his career has been less than desirable, so he has now decided to go back to where it all started, India.
The Guardian is reporting that Kingsley has signed on to star in "Taj," a film about the man who built the Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan reigned over the Mogul empire in the Indian subcontinent between 1628 and 1658. His rule is considered something of a golden age, and at the time of his death in 1666, the empire is said to have spanned 750 million acres, about nine-tenths of the size of modern India. It did not end well, however: the emperor was deposed by his son Aurangzeb in 1658 after falling ill, and confined to the citadel of Agra until his death.
"With my passion for India and the Taj Mahal now becoming one of the seven wonders of the World, I am compelled to ask 'why' and 'how' this scream of grief frozen in marble came into being," said Kingsley. "It is an indelible monument to passion and love. How did the building evolve in the first place, that is the question we're looking at."
British playwright and novelist David Ashton has written the screenplay for "Taj," which has a budget of around $30 million and is currently search of a director. The plan is to begin shooting during the fall of 2010.

Yeah, but that wasn't a bong... it was for his schlong!
Kingsley's career has sucked of late, and now he's going to fix that? Sounds like the Alba article today.
Ben is the sh*t. He's a reminder of what strength a little man (in stature) - like Hoffman (I site his: 'Death of a Salesman' performance as only 1 example) can bring to the big screen.
There was little Kingsley playing the Jew, going toe-to-toe with powerful Liam Neeson in Schlinder's List.
If his career has been sucking... it's not because of the man. It's the crap they've been offering him (and as actor's need to eat too), and he's taken.
