First "The Lovely Bones" Reviews are InPosted: November 25th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Paramount Pictures started screening Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones" and the first reviews are coming in. Some are negative, some are positive, and some call it the best film of the year. And the reviews also answer the question why the rape is not mentioned in the trailers. It turns out that it is also not mentioned in the movie.
Read the reviews below which are not sorted in any specific way.
The Sun: The best film of next year.
Variety: Peter Jackson's infatuation with fancy visual effects mortally wounds "The Lovely Bones." A significant artistic disappointment.
TotalFilm: A sister film to Heavenly Creatures, brimming with not just tears but imagination, thrills and verve. It’s heart-on-sleeve, sure, but it also has a whiff of awards potential.
THR: A simpler, more button-pushing tale that misses the joy and heartbreak of the original.
The Guardian: The screen version, by contrast, is so infuriatingly coy, and so desperate to preserve the modesty of its soulful victim that it amounts to an ongoing clean-up operation.
DailyMail: The book was deeply moving but the film, in the hands of director Peter Jackson is a somewhat leaden, stiff-jointed affair.
ScreenDaily: Jackson can’t quite capture a fluid structural rhythm for the piece, even while individual sequences and creative decisions are spot-on.
AICN: This is an incredibly lovely film. From the visuals to the performances to the story-telling and film work... it all goes to capture a very powerful story in a way that makes you want to hug those close to you.

Wasn't this rape moving originally tit(t)led:
'My Lovely Bone!'?

I think you're thinking of that other film, 'The Rudely Boned'.

@jeff - lol.
@FF - these 'reviews' are turning you off of the movie... or you just suspect it can't match the book?

I just don't see the movie being nearly as good as the book. They rarely are, and I think they will cut out a lot of what made it good (I won't say too much)

Let me guess, the girl gets raped in the book. All you lovers of the book are going to be disappointed if what? the girl doesn't get raped in the movie? "Bah. That movie sucked. There was no 12-year-old girl rape scene. Wah. Life..."
