"Tyson" Director Accuses Academy Awards of Corruption

"Tyson" Director Accuses Academy Awards of CorruptionSubmit Comment
A few days ago, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the fifteen documentaries that will move on in the race for the Best Documentary Oscar. But mission from that list were lots of prominent films, including Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story" and James Toback's "Tyson," about the legendary boxer.

Toback has now sat down with the NY Times to express his anger and to say that it all came down to favoritism and corruption. "How is some tiny, dirty covert weirdly protective little group within the Academy going to be immune [from corruption]," he said.

The filmmaker added that his experience with the group's selection processes... "I put fully in the category of extortion that I did not go along with."

Sounds like Toback is accusing the small Oscar committee of corruption that he apparently experienced first-hand. Whether this is true or not, the fact remains that the majority of popular documentaries from 2008 went ignored.

What popular doc*mentaries? Moore's film Capitalism was a total flop. I can't imagine the Tyson film being any different.

I heard nothing but good things about Tyson so that is a little weird, but are we really surprised the Academy f*cked up? Come on people this is a group that snubbed two of the highest grossing and critically acclaimed films for best picture last year. They gave the award for Best Original Screenplay for a screenplay that was a biography, how is that an original idea? They gave best supporting actor to the dead guy, best actor to the one who played the gay guy, and best picture to a movie just to honor Bollywood. Let's try to contain our amazement here.

Shakazooloofoo- thatís your opinion, im sticking to mine, itís what I know and believe. Now lets not get off topic here.. Jim Caviezel not getting on Oscar or even nominated for one on his role in passion of the christ, that is a CRIME! No wonder he left the spotlight.. truely talented actor tho..

It's not a matter of opinion the fact is that Jesus was Jewish. No branch of catholicism will tell you different.

And of course the Jews running Hollywood aren't going to give one of the most anti-Semitic movies ever made an Oscar.

Bottom line obviously they are rigged it's nice to hear someone finally get it out in the open though.

During his lifetime, no single person was described a "Jew" anywhere for that matter, none of the manuscripts of the original Old or New Testament was Jesus described or referred to as a "Jew". The term "Jew" originated in the late eighteenth century. get educated a little plz befor you try to call someone out.
TheHundreds writes:

i dont know what wikipedia told you but the dominating relegion at the time followed the Old Testament. Maybe they werent called "jewish" at the time but jesus was part of that religion and they are now known as "jewish" The fact that you don't know this makes it hard for me to take anything religious you say seriously. Im not a fan of personal attacks but i feel a little insulted by you. stop doing research and go ask a priest.
TheHundreds writes:

and im just reading your last post and im further convinced that you dont understand the relationship between judaism and catholicism
vaodsi writes:

Uhm big unit.... in the bible there are multiple geneolgies of jesus. They all line up with each other and show that jesus was a descendant of king david AND abraham. SO i guess next you are going to say that abraham was not a jew? or king david for that matter?

Mel gibson said he did not want caviezel to get a nomintation or for the film to get best picture. It couldn't have won best picture anyhow...
but.. what is so anitsemitic about it? i mean.. seriously. It's history. It's based on a book written ENTIRELY by JEWS! and the anti semitic parts are the parts that are MOST ACCURATE.. say what you will about gibson he deserves the whiplash for his idiotic rants... but the movie itself didn't feel anti semitic to me...
vaodsi writes:
on November 23rd, 2009 at 2:12:35 AM

whether you call them jews, hebrews, israelites etc.... Jew is the common modern day name given to this people of which jesus was a part. who cares if they weren't called jews then.. they are called jews now... get educated, before you call a black person a nigga... (i'm tired.. why am i even answering you... )
rabid writes:

(In legend) He was a member of the Essens, a Jewish sect. He even says that his message is not for the world, but for Jews only.

I can't get over the fact that anyone could look at the bible as an historical text, rather than the collection of poorly written fairy tails it is.
Eben1277 writes:

Do we really expect anything serious from the Oscars? These people awarded Titanic Best Picture over LA Confidential, give me a f*ckin break here. Forrest Gump over Shawshank Redemption AND Pulp Fiction, get real.
vaodsi writes:

Eben1277....
yeah go figure. It must be a bunch of fairytales when every secular archeologist proclaims it to be the most historically accurate work in history... heck they even GO to the bible to check their dates! ;)
Say what you will about the bible and it's odd, seemingly conflicting messages, BUT as far as dates and historical facts are concerned, it's right on the money.

But it did leave out the part of when they were nailing Jesus to the Cross, he liked the pain so much he got a boner and poked one of the Roman's in the eye with it.

Fortunately for Jesus the Roman was gay, so the Cross rising was delayed for only 1 straddling by the Roman.
