Mel Gibson has been too old to play many roles; he was ten years older than the real William Wallace in "Braveheart," lost the chance to play James Bond due to his age, and is now too old to reprise his "Mad Max" role.
"Not with me, I'm a bit old and long in the tooth for that number," said Gibson about starring in the new "Mad Max" movie that director George Miller is working on. "You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker."
Well, Miller has already someone younger in mind, actor Tom Hardy (Bronson, RocknRolla, Inception), who - with Charlize Theron - has already signed on to star.
"I was just talking with George the other day," said Gibson, adding: "I figure if it's great, you'll end up seeing it, you know."

With Tom Hardy buff up like he is in "Bronson" then I can see this working. However, if they can have Harrison Ford's ancient arse running around in Indy 4, I don't see why Mel can't start hitting the gym so that he can be in this movie.
