Ryan Reynolds was Almost Captain Marvel in "Shazam"

Ryan Reynolds was Almost Captain Marvel in "Shazam"Submit Comment
Ryan Reynolds is snatching up pretty much every comic book role out there. He already played Deadpool in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and is now set to make a "Deadpool" spin-off and a "Green Lantern" film.

At one point, he was considered to play The Flash and writer Bill Birch has now revealed to CineFools that he wanted Reynolds to star in his "Shazam" movie. "I always thought Ryan Reynolds would have been interesting but now that he's Green Lantern that's not an option," he said.

According to Birch, he is starting "Shazam" from scratch and is not sure if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will end up playing Captain Marvel or Black Adam, as previously revealed by Johnson.

Wouldn't of work. The Rock should play Black Adam or Better yet not be in the film at all.

does anyone here other than me ever think of shazam as pretty much a gay version,if not gayer version, of Superman?

Thats because he is...."Shazam Comics" made him after Superman, but years lated DC bought Cap. Marvel.

Too bad Patrick Warburton is getting on in years, he would have made the perfect Captain Marvel about 10 years ago. The Rock could be pretty good as Black Adam though.

"Ryan Reynolds is snatching up pretty much every comic book role out there."

There are literally thousands and thousands of comic book characters out there. This guy will have played three of them. Besides the fact that nobody knew who Hannibal King was til "Blade Trinity" came out, the majority of the general public has no idea who Deadpool is, especially after watching "Wolverine 4". I say, let him play every f*cking superhero he wants. There don't seem to be many other candidates out there. One thing I would like to see is Zachary Levi ("Chuck") get a shot at Superman. In fact, the whole cast of that show should be in superhero movies. Yvonne Strahovsky would be great as any female superhero, Matthew Bomer would make a better Batman than "Raspy" Bale, and Sarah Lancaster is probably the best choice around for Wonder Woman.

Oh, and for the record,
"I always thought Ryan Reynolds would have been interesting"

Does not translate to:
"Ryan Reynolds was Almost Captain Marvel in "Shazam"

^^^@evil: so true. Oh, who the hell is Black Adam. I'm so not comic savvy

I think it would have worked, I like reynolds, he is not that diverse acting wise but he does well with what he is got. And yes shazam is the super homo version of superman.

as soon as xmen and all those sh*tty superhero movies started comin out, me and a couple buddies at work always were wondering when the rock would pick up a role. we all agreed he isnt a great actor, but he looks exactly like the submariner. agree?

@ks - Yes, the Rock and Prince Namor do look alike... good call.

As for this 'article': 'Ryan Reynolds is snatching up pretty much every comic book role out there.' ---- as someone has already mentioned... there are hundreds of characters to play. 2 to 3 is NOT getting them ALL! I'm a fan of Reynolds. But the only 'snatching' he's doing is with the Mrs.

Rock as Black Adam... fer sure.
Reynolds could work as Captain Marvel. It is a comedy role after all. Could be neat, but hopefully they'd keep it for the kiddies.

I agree with eddie499, and I've been saying it ever since I read Kingdom Come - Patrick Warburton would have been, and possibly still could be, the perfect choice for Captain Marvel.
(and yes, CM is the gay version of Superman and I hate how every time they fight, CM gets the upper hand)

@Stunt- pretty much all you need to know about Black Adam is that he looks like The Rock, he's as powerful as Captain Marvel, he's evil and he always hovers a few feet off the ground. I remember hearing that it was because he thought of himself as being better than low life mortals, but I think the real reason is that he constantly has evil semen leaking from his magic ass and he doesn't want to step in the puddles that pool up. Hope this helps!

If any movie is getting made revolving around a guy in red tights and lightning bolts, it better be freakazoid!

@pomme - I think it's a lot like the way people liked Michael J. Fox (before he twitched). These guys are personable and approachable off camera... and people like that.
