Robert Zemeckis to Remake "The Nutcracker" Next?Submit Comment
Robert Zemeckis' "A Christmas Carol" took the top spot at the domestic box office last weekend, but was hardly a success. The film cost $200 million to make and only brought in $30 million during its opening weekend.

Now, according to Pajiba, Zemeckis is already planning his next project, which will be once again a Christmas movie. The new film is an adaptation of "The Nutcracker." It will not be based on the popular Tchaikovsky ballet, but on ETA Hoffmann's original novel "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King."

The story will be a set in 19th century Russia and will explore the battle between the dolls and the mice, and how the cursed Nutcracker character came to be. Zemeckis will once again use 3D animated motion capture to make the movie.

This will not be the first big screen adaptation of "The Nutcracker." There was a stop-motion version in 1979 called "Nutcracker Fantasy," starring Christopher Lee, and an animated version in 1990 called "The Nutcracker Prince," starring Kiefer Sutherland.

Hey Rob,

Maybe you'd like to get out of your motion-capture basement and hangout with the fans of your good movies? kthxbai

Can this be live action, please? He just doesnt seem to understand that his animated movies suck c*ck, everytime Back to the Future comes on encore i cant understand why Zemekis doesnt realize that that was his masterpiece and his live action movies do much better and ARE much better than his sh*tty computer generated ones. Just stop this sh*t Bob.
