"Paranormal Activity" Director's "Area 51" Details Revealed

Paranormal Activity Directors Area 51 Details RevealedSubmit Comment
LatinoReview got their hands on a 43-page outline of Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity" follow-up, called "Area 51," which the site describes as "Paranormal" with aliens.

The film revolves around four teenagers (Chris, Paul, Rob, Natalie) who head to Las Vegas, but not for gambling. Chris sets up a meeting with a former Area 51 employee (Novak), who while working there, has heard of human/alien experiments. Novak has never seen anything himself, but knows that there is video proof. Paul doesn't believe any of this, but Chris becomes determined to retrieve the video evidence.

"Area 51" will once again use handheld cameras to record everything. In fact, the film starts with Chris testing out his brand new handycam. There is also a sub-story regarding Natalie, whose father claims to have been abducted by aliens. And once the group enters the secret location, there is more than enough suspense and alien action to thrill audiences.

Peli made "Paranormal Activity" for only $10,000. This time around, the studio handed him around $7 million to see what he is capable of. If "Area 51" becomes a success, there is a good chance that Peli will continue pumping out low-budget thrillers every year, using the handycam style.

Aliens FTW! I've always been interested in Area 51 and what is or isn't there. I yet have to see Paranormal Activity (not out yet over here) but I will definitely see this!

yeah i agree Area 51 needs to have a good movie... so don't be a let down! and so besides BJ Novak... who else has signed on to this?

@Ted - I think 'Novak' is a character in the movie, not BJ Novak from "The Office"

Finally! A director that is dedicated to the camera-style-point-of-view technique. I love this genre and I have now doubt in my mind that this going to be a kick-ass movie!

Well I fucking loved Paranormal Activity (saw it before all the hype), so I'm willing to give this a shot.

But he should probably try and get out of the hand-held style.

...... yes it will.. and might i commend you on your choice of user pic...

Paranormal Activity was impressive for a few different reasons, but in the long run it was just a 96 minute cheap trick. Ill sum it up. "Lights off, night vision on, silence, cue bass line, ridiculously long wait in the dark, BANG BANG" Its fucking sensory overload, it's like the whole exorcist prank on you tube, if you're staring at something in silence for long enough and something pops out at you, it's probably going to scare the shit out of you... no real talent their, the guys just a lucky fuck that hit a cash cow...

Good job making an insane amount of cash on PA, even though I didn't like it at all (boring, predictable and not really scary at all) it was still a well made film. Maybe I'll like this.

dude, if he does it like D9, then I have full faith in him.

PA was a massive hit because of word of mouth, and the internet buzz.... this movie will flop

Good for him cashing in.... now he can buy himself a nice fancy house.

He has a true talent for these kinda movies. This sounds REALLY good on paper..but we will just have to wait and see. Me personally i loved PA, actually saw it twice. This just sounds like it will be awesome.
