"I Am Legend" Helmer to Direct "Sgt. Rock" Comic BookPosted: November 10th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  A film adaptation of the "Sgt Rock" comic book has been in the works for many years. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger was once attached to play the title role.
And just when producer Joel Silver hired Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) to direct, Quentin Tarantino started pushing forward with his "Inglourious Basterds" film, which is similar in tone to "Sgt. Rock." Silver was forced to put his project on hold.
Now that everything has cooled down, he is giving it another shot. Silver has already hired Chad St. John to write the script, has producer Akiva Goldsman and Warner Bros on board, and has attached Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) to direct.
The film was to be set during World War II, but the studio is worried that the setting may hurt the film's box office results. As a result, Warners is moving the time period to the future. Stay tuned.

If its set in the future how could it be Sgt Rock and easy co.?
If u want to do a war film set in the future just do and leave the name Rock alone.
This sounds like a shitty idea and bound to be an epic fail.

No matter what they do or how good it actually is, it will come off as an Inglorious Basterds rip-off, which is a shame.

Please let this piece-of-shit project die. Haven't enough comic book icons been desecrated?

@Sinestro - well said.
WWII is a bad setting for a war movie?! WTF?! I would have laughed in the face to whomever said THAT during the meeting!!! They should STILL make it WWII (as it is SUPPOSED to be). Hey... if they think it's good enough for the Captain American movie... I'm sure it's good enough for this one.
WWII is a bad setting for Sgt. Rock?!
What a bunch of fucking morons!
