No Dialogue in First Hour of Danny Boyle's "127 Hours"

No Dialogue in First Hour of Danny BoyleSubmit Comment
A few days ago, Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) confirmed that he will next direct "127 Hours," a film that tells the story of mountaineer Aron Ralston. Now, we have a few more details.

According to Boyle, Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) has yet to start writing the screenplay, but Boyle has already put together a treatment. And even though a March 2010 start date has been mentioned, the director said that the film "has no green light or budget."

Boyle added that the first hour of the film will have no dialogue, since Ralston was alone during his mountain climb. His right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder, forcing Ralston to use a dull knife to amputate the limb. He then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter.

So... an hour of a guy with his arm trapped beneath a boulder drinking his urine, sipping droplets from his water bottle, and carving his own tombstone on the boulder...

good times Danny Boyle

does that leave us with 126 hours of dialogue!?!?!

^^LOL....

I remember this story on "FOX'S most dangerous rescues" or whatever the sh*t..

Good luck making this worth watching..

The arm-sawing scene should be shown in it's entirety. How long's it take to saw off an arm with one hand using a dull knife?
15... 20 minutes?

There Will Be Blood had no dialogue for its first 15 minutes because Daniel was alone in the desert... and it was still a great movie.

so if Boyle can really pull you in i don't think it will be a problem at all with no dialogue for an hour.. it all depends on how he films it, with the music... cinematography.. and so on. so i trust him

Thanks for spoiling the movie saying that he will get rescued at the end.

"and it was still a great movie."

HAHA no.

You can't expect me to love a movie because Paul Dano gets owned with a bowling ball then cut to black. What was the intention of that "ending"? to make it "Edgy" or "inventive"? Because it just pissed me off.

i didn't ask you or expect you to love a movie because paul dano gets "owned by a bowling ball"
SpookyCupcakes writes:

my point is that the movie was ruined because of it's lack of an ending.

And endings are pretty important in movies, well, to me at least.

What?
Kurskij writes:

Well, no dialogue doesn't mean no monologues.
f*ck, Danny, you should've made Bond 23 instead. I would mind 'no dialogue-all action' for the first hour in that one.

Akhem... I meant "wouldn't mind". Decades of self-gratification have finally caught up with me...

Amputate his own limb... with a knife... did not bleed to death... Then scaled and hiked out... Yeah right, thats is very believable.... lame

Love it. Boyle explored this sort of filmmaking with the opening sequence of ...28 Days Later, and honestly, it could have went a lot longer without dialogue. He is a master at setting mood with soundtrack and circ*mstance. I look forward to this project and hope that Boyle is allowed to stay true to the vision he laid out right here.

Ok Ok.

So who here can stomach, a guy climbing a mountain for a whole hour...

I mean i've watched silent films but at least they have music and are funny...
The only modern day film that has kept me captivated for the longest with no dialogue and well that because it had some amazing captivating visuals...Wall.E.

Lets face it, this sounds like artsy oscar-bait.

So he f*cked up, got his arm stuck under a boulder and cut it off? How heroic, look out Gandhi, you have some competition on your hands.
