Ridley Scott Talks "Alien" PrequelPosted: October 29th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Empire magazine caught up with director Ridley Scott, who recently announced that he will be directing the prequel to "Alien," the franchise that he started back in 1979.
"It's a brand new box of tricks," said Scott. "We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It's very difficult to put a year on 'Alien,' but [for example] if 'Alien' was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior."
He added: "I never thought I'd look forward to a sequel. But a prequel is kind of interesting. I'm looking forward to doing that."
If the story takes place thirty years before Scott's original film, it should be interesting to see how everything will be tied together. The director could, however, completely ignore all the installments and just reboot the franchise. Stay tuned.

How is it difficult to "put a year" on the "Alien" prequel? If the first one was towards the end of this century and the prequel is 30 years prior, that would put it around 2070. Not too difficult, is it, Ridley?

You know, I would like some further explanation as to what the "Space Jockey" is and how it got on that planet in this new movie. I just really hope it doesn't turn into a big joke, like AvP ended up! Please don't fuck this up, Mr. Scott.

I'm up for it, if the script has some story to it. Not introducing 1 dimensional characters just to pick them off one by one (racially, alphabetically, or otherwise). Yeah talking to you AVP 1 & 2.

I'm just gonna say the truth, Aliens was so much better than scott's Alien. He started it, he's movie was great but Aliens was just awesome.

Ooooh that word reboot again.
I'm sure that it is used once every 2-3 articles.
Fact: In the prequel, Lohan was revealed as being the original mother to the species.

@Evil. Kev
Well that depends on what date can be considered as "towards the end of the century". Surly 2080 could be considered such or even 2075, which would place the Alien Prequel much sooner.
I think his point was that it's difficult to put a date on Alien since there is nothing in the film to suggest when it took place. Later films obviously cleared things up a little bit but I doubt Ridley will be paying much attention to them.
Thank you and Good Day!

Ridley Scott could film Russell Crowe using a samurai sword to obliterate a giant wax statue of Yoda and I would cream in my pants.
Wait a tic. How the hell then does that explain how BORING American Gangster was and how retarded it was to let Bloom be lead in Kingdom of Heaven vs. any of the other characters in K.O.H.? Just proves you can't go blindly into a Ridley Scott film. They can suck quite a bit at times but he at least gives it his all.

@jackswassomethingorrather "make a movie about what happened to the colony and focus on newts family before the marines arive"
good fucking idea that shit would be awsome. I personaly LOVED aliens 1,2,3 and am wetting my pants for aliens colonial marines xbox360 to come out. A new aliens movie that is GOOD would be sweet. But sadly this is hollywood we're talking about and for fucks sake thev hit rock bottom as far as im concerned and its going to be a long LONG time before they crawl out of the CGI, rebooted, remake, pg-13 HOLE IN THE FUCKIN GROUND they have made for themselfes.
