"Paranormal Activity" Easily Beats "Saw VI" This WeekendSubmit Comment
Becoming the biggest box office phenomenon of the year, Paramount's "Paranormal Activity" easily took down "Saw VI" by grossing an estimated $22 million from 1,945 theaters to win the weekend. "Paranormal" has now earned a total of $62.5 million on a $15,000 budget.

"Saw VI" opened to an estimated $14.8 million from 3,036 theaters, which is less than half the opening gross of the previous four films in the horror franchise. It also came in below the original "Saw," which opened at around $18 million. Film placed No. 2.

The three other new nationwide releases came in on the lower end of expectations. "Astro Boy" took sixth place, grossing an estimated $7 million from 3,014 theaters. It cost $65 million to make. "Cirque du Freak: the Vampire's Assistant" grossed an estimated $6.3 million from 2,754 theaters to placed No. 8. Film was produced for $40 million.

Fox Searchlight's Amelia Earhart biopic "Amelia," directed by Mira Nair and starring Hilary Swank, placed No. 11 by grossing an estimated $4 million from 818 theaters for a solid screen average of $4,921 on the strength of older women.

i think there's only one big partial reason why paranormal activity is making as much as it is, like so when blair witch came out....better technology, same budget...better effects, better subject...i'm still thinkin 'whatever' to current box office successes because obviously nothing more exciting is not out yet...but i like that fantastic mr. fox is coming up soon...that'll be excellente

This should show hollywood that we like seeing something slightly original instead of part 6 of a crappy franchise

Nice! Now hopefully this will signal the end of the Saw franchise. Something that was truly milked for all that it was worth.

Wow, I just got through watching this and I must say pretty disappointing. I went in with high hopes cuz of all the hype. I must say that the guy was pretty funny though

The most paranormal thing in the movie were the girls tits! Those things haunted my dreams all night long!
