"Shutter Island" Writer to Adapt "Ghost in the Shell 3D"Posted: October 23rd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
DreamWorks has signed on writer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Alexander) to adapt the Japanese manga property "Ghost in the Shell." The studio is making the futuristic police thriller as a 3D live-action film.
Created by Masamune Shirow, "Ghost in the Shell" was first published in 1989. It went on to generate two more manga editions, three anime film adaptations and an anime TV series. The second anime film, "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence," was released in the US by DreamWorks in 2004.
Avi Arad brought the project to the studio last year. Jamie Moss was originally hired to adapt "Ghost in the Shell," but has now been replaced by Kalogridis.

It may end up being a good sci-fi film, but it won't match up to the anime films. Hollywood is super retarded.

Don't worry. They only screw up good anime adaptions like Dragonball. Where something like GitS pre-existingly sucks, it can only have potential to do better. Lord help us all when FMA is put on the table.

i wish the film industry would let 3D die already. it's just a cheap novelty to get people in seats.

"it's just a cheap novelty to get people in seats."
And it STILL fails to get people in seats.

@Detrimental Saying that Dragonball is a better anime than Ghost in the Shell completely destroys your credibility.
and @Skippy - sometimes, the anime porn is more expensive than the live stuff. go to comi-con. hahaha

Please lets not compare "Ghost in the Shell" to "Dragon Ball". "Ghost in the Shell" maybe a better quality anime but "Dragon Ball" is a piece of manga history. Both franchises are great and should not be compared. It's like comparing "Watchmen" to "Spider-Man". You know "Watchmen" my be great literature but "Spider-Man" is more loved worldwide.

I've realized that most Anime/Manga-haters that I've come across have no actual idea about it at all. If you really look at how much anime is out there I'd have to say that about 90% of it is shit, but then that goes for everything. To describe it as "Cartoon porn" (which is actually called Hentai) makes you sound like a Daily mail reader, quite ignorant actually.
Contrary to how it might appear in the mainstream market, anime is not all big eyes, small noses and tentacles. There are some seriously good story tellers out there, unfortunately they're overshadowed by more popular and generic fare like Naruto, dragonball, Pokemon, and Bleach.
Studio 4c, Studio Ghibli, Production I.G, and Studio Madhouse produce some of the most amazing animation in the world. Obviously you're intitled to your own opinion, but it seems like a stupid thing to make such a judgement when you obviously know shit about the subject.
On topic- This is a terrible idea. I don't see why they don't just make an original story with elements of the manga in it, like 'The Matrix' did. That, or just come up with something original ffs.

well aside from hollywood always stealing others' ideas...at least we can still appreciate and support the originals more...because that's what most remakes do...they make you appreciate the originals better
