Nicolas Cage Blames Business Manager for Financial RuinPosted: October 18th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Nicolas Cage owes the IRS over $6 million and to gather the cash, he has been selling most of his houses. In addition, Cage has been taking more movie roles than he ever has, some of which being less than desirable.
Now, Variety is reporting that part of the reason why Cage is going through such difficult times may have something to do with his former business manager, Samuel Levin. Cage is now suing Levin for $20 million, claiming bad advice and mismanagement led him toward financial ruin.
"Instead of protecting and preserving Cage's wealth during one of the greatest economic periods in the country's history, Levin placed Cage in numerous highly speculative and risky real estate investments, resulting in Cage suffering catastrophic losses," the lawsuit states.
Levin served as Cage's business manager from 2001 to 2008 and collected millions of dollars in management fees. Cage relied on Levin's statements and advice and couldn't have known about the financial trouble he was facing until after he hired new management, according to the lawsuit.

Thing with advice is that you DON'T have to take it.

Oh come on now. Most of America doesn't have business managers. You do not have to take someone elses advice and you certainly don't tell them to just go ahead and make decisions for you. You always look into them first. Maybe he should start by blaming himself for his own lack of responsibilities in managing his affairs.

did his manager really screw him over that bad that he cant come up with 6 million dollars with no prob? i can see if it was like 50 million dollars,he'd have to sell his sh*t or whatever. as big as an actor as he is,he should know that he failed if he cant pay a 6 million dollar debt when actors these days are highly paid.

If I could have sued Cage for every terrible movie he's done after Adaptation, I'd have enough money to be the person buying his houses.

I dont want to sound negative, but before we judge other people, lets give them the benefit of the doubt. I am not siding with Mr. Cage but it's really bad to judge him.

@Supersweetguy - good post. But your decision to not judge Cage is even a judgment on your part.
Nick... you hired this guy. If you were stupid enough (because you were Mr. Big Shot Hollywood) and gave him 'signing authority'... then YOU did that.
YOU hired him.
YOU should watch your money, because NO ONE cares more about your money than YOU do (supposedly).
Stop passing the buck. You f*cked up. Now you're learning. Grow up. Get back to work. And take it on the chin like a man and TAKE SOME f*ckING RESPONSIBILITY!

Serves him right for changing his name from Coppola to Cage. Everyone knows you don't f*ck with a Coppola's money. And I wonder if his career would have gone a different direction if he kept his name Nicholas Coppola.

Another fault of Nick here is trying to pass the blame here. He HIRED this guy. END of story. NICK and everyone else are ULTIMATELY responsible for EVERY aspect of their life.
f*cking excuse makers is all these people are.
And what amount of money does one need before they start to hand off such responsibility? It seems in this case the more one has the MORE they should take interest as to where it goes.
