"Magneto" Spin-Off May Not Use Ian McKellen

"Magneto" Spin-Off May Not Use Ian McKellenSubmit Comment
Empire magazine spoke to producer Lauren Shuler Donner about the upcoming "Magneto" spin-off, stating that this is the only X-Men project that is not a major priority.

"David Goyer has written a brilliant script. It starts in the concentration camps and has Magneto coming out of there," she said. "But you know, I'm not sure that film is going to be made. The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have to stand back and decide which ones to make. And Magneto, I think, is at the back of the queue. Maybe it'll get made in five years - who knows?"

She continued: "I can tell you that Ian McKellen won't be playing the character the whole way through. We used Lola technology in X-Men 3 to de-age Ian and Patrick for one scene, but it's very expensive. To do that for a two-hour movie would be prohibitive financially. And to find a younger actor to fill Ian's shoes, that's pretty daunting. It's not easy."

It is pretty obvious that they wouldn't hrie McKellen, whihc is a shame. But i like the idea of Magento ageing through the film, and fianlly we get the older Magneto played by McKellen!

I jsut hope they don't rush the storyline, introduce 10 new charcters in the span of 90mins, so there is no charcter development. Just focus on Magneto, maybe Xavier and maybe a few baddies!

sh*t in 5 years Ian will be dead and so will all the f*cking xmen movies and their infinite number of prequals and spin off and sh*t. So who cares

Why so much Xmen news? I'd rather watch avatar than any xmen movie at this point.

Ian McKellan himself has been saying this for over a year now. He said it a day or two ago in an article on this site

Once it's made, we can finally see how he came to be Mystique's pimp.

Boo, now we'll never see Ian McKellan kiss Patrick Stewart.

Daunting, perhaps. But the fact is that Magneto has a great story, it'll be worth it.
But I understand, make X-Men: First Class is a way better idea
