Ryan Reynolds Goes from "Deadpool" to Cross-DressingPosted: October 16th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Ryan Reynolds is the big star in Hollywood right now, giving him the chance to take any role he wants. He currently has two superhero films in the works, including a "Deadpool" spin-off and "The Green Lantern" adaptation, but he is still trying to squeeze in romantic comedies.
Variety is reporting that Working Title has acquired an untitled concept comedy that Allan Loeb (21, Wall Street 2) will write as a star vehicle for Reynolds.
The new film is described as a dude-in-drag romantic comedy, with Reynolds playing a jilted lover who must disguise himself as a woman and befriend his ex in order to win her back.
Reynold's last romantic comedy was "The Proposal," which earned almost $300 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $40 million budget.

I've tried to like this guy since he is in my comic book world...
but nothing works when he pulls crap like this constantly. It's like he's got some douchebag button he presses so everyone despises him.

I think he is a pretty good actor. Deadpool could be a great picture, providing they let him keep his mouth(damn you x-men origins for ruining Deadpool)!

It worked great for Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire, should be cool to see Reynolds trying to pull something like that off.

If anything, this just shows how smart he is. He's trying to stake his claim in as many markets as he can. Chick flicks, superhero movies, comedies, horror, I don't blame him. Take the paychecks from all these cunt-clenching rom-coms and make yourself a producer on Deadpool and GL so they don't get royally fucked up by their respective studios

Don't do it Ryan. Leave this type of role for Nathan Lane or Doogie.

This sounds pretty funny and I think Reynolds has a gift when it comes to comedies in general. Have his co-star be someone like Anna Faris and this should be funny as hell.

Ryan Reynolds is the one modern comedian who's gimmick never bores me. He just does it so well. However, I can't see him being convincing as a dude in drag at all. I didn't like "White Chicks" just for that factor (among many others). The crossdressing aspect always works better with women dressing like men.
I do, however, admire his will to do something a bit different. As PeterParker said, Robin William was great in Mrs. Doubtfire. And I agree with mattcl23: Reynolds and Farris are great together (refer to "Just Friends").

It's going to be different from Doubtfire... how? Sounds like the same plot minus the kids. Robin Williams was a different genre of an actor- he had ADD, that made it believable. But Reynolds? He doesn't. Although I'm sure it will get the guy into some awkward moments, and laughs for the audience, I'll pass.

@eVil - well said.
@PP, Matt and others... you're right. Ryan can pull this off no problem-o.
Everyone always doubt actors whenever they try something just out of their (the fan's... NOT the actors) comfort zone.
They didn't want Christopher Reeve to play Supes.
They didn't want Spock in Star Trek.
They didn't want Michael J. Fox in Family Ties.
They wanted Tom Selleck to play Indiana Jones (granted... that wouldn't have been so bad) but 'settles' with Ford.
They don't want Lohan back in rehab because she steals the towels, wipes her stinky crotch with them then posts them on eBay to pay for her smoke habit.
wait...
OK, sorry... I'm back now. Oh yeah. Ryan will be fine in this as long as they don't cast Aniston (as this is the only type of movie she does anymore - the dumped bitch, not the dumper).

@Ranger- Eaaasssy boy.
I think Reynolds has too many superheros on his plate right now personally. I think he should have done The Flash...but that's in the toilet now since he is doing GL. He obviously has a great knack for comedy and I think he is funny as hell. So the question is, should he go with comedy or action...or both? I don't know...I'm getting to be kind of sick of him which means overexposure. Tread with caution Ryan....

Ranger writes: on October 16th, 2009 at 3:28:08 PM
@makingcircles - we all know Ryan wanted The Flash... but he (actors) take what is offered. Too bad the arrogant studios don't try just a bit harder to match up an actors passion with a role. So many other (better?) names have come up to play GL... so The Flash should have been offered to Ryan as a no-brainer. But admittedly the studio's aren't bright enough to get off their lazy ass and create a super story for The Flash... so there it sits.
DC/WB... you suck!

@Ranger - Agreed
I'm personally more of a Flash fan than Green Lantern. I saw Ryan on some show a few weeks back saying that he is going to be playing the Green Lantern and he said something funny like, "Cause all kids love Lanterns"... That's not a direct quote mind you but it's basically what he said. Funny stuff.

Yes ranger, its always nice when you bring your particular brand of aids to the table... Raidser...
This is stupid... it worked for Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman because they're not fucking tall buff fucking action stars... this is like Schwarzenegger doing Junior... Fucking retarded idea...
I like Ryan Reynolds personally but I dont like his fucking need to do romantic comedies... theres so many good actors out there that continue to push out recycled piles of shit rom coms... ie.. Gerard butler, aaron eckhart, fuck, even McConaughey... Its too fucking bad... Say what you will about Bale, I think these fuckers could all take a lesson from him...
And as for fillion not getting the role... as brought up in another thread... STOP WASTING YOUR FUCKING TIME ON NETWORK TELEVISION!!
weren't both Reynolds and Fillion in 2 guys a girl and a pizza place?... Good show.. fillion should have ended his television career there and focused more on films like reynolds... its too bad because im pretty keen on fillion... Im also keen on prostitutes and crack cocaine so it really isn't saying much..

'Im also keen on prostitutes and crack cocaine...' --- who isn't?!
This goes back to these actors only taking what is offered. They don't have the power or control over their careers (except final veto) as to what they're offered. UNLESS they get to producing (which few have the balls to do - which is the only reason I'm a fan of Drew Barrymore's). Seagal produced, and he's a lot further ahead than VanDamme. Mel Gibson - da Man! Most of the others... just working class (albeit well-paid) actors.

Working class or not.. What happened to casting calls? Whatever happened to fucking auditioning for a movie and getting the role because you're the better actor..
Its bullshit that theres about 15 actors out there that just sit on their retarded asses and get handed the best fucking roles out there while guys like that have to go out and make themselves look like fucking idiots in order to pay the bills...
Ridiculous.. But Reynolds had to audition for the role of the green lantern.. I would just hope that instead of producers and casting directors sitting there saying "mmm yeap, its gotta be brad pitt, bitches love brad pitt" they would actually hold some auditions and see who would be right for the part... fucking horse caca.. fuck ranger wtf...

Sounds pretty meh for a romcom but I think of these half baked so-so flicks like this as like taking extra shifts at an hourly working job just to earn an extra buck here and there, it seems like the same kinda thing comparatively for big name actors like Mr. Reynolds here, and I like him and all, I do I can't wait for Deadpool, his Wade wilson was short but sweet in wolverine but movies like this are really a dime a dozen and moreso every single year it seems. Not that it matters really, it's just easy money for the studios involved so, Yup! More power to you Ryan Reynolds, wear the hell outta that bra and panties they put you in for this!!
