Chris Pine in Talks for Jack Ryan Prequel

Chris Pine in Talks for Jack Ryan PrequelSubmit Comment
Paramount Pictures is now in negotiations with Chris Pine (Star Trek) to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels. This confirms that the new film will be a prequel, which cannot involve George Clooney, who previously expressed interest in starring.

The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini (Killshot), based on an original concept. They are still in deep development and it is unclear whether Pine would make the "Star Trek" sequel before the Jack Ryan film.

Pine could end up being the fourth actor to play Ryan. Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990's "The Hunt for Red October," Harrison Ford played him in 1992's "Patriot Games" and 1994's "Clear and Present Danger," and Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002's "The Sum of All Fears."

wasnt "The Sum of All Fears" a prequel too?

which way is this franchise heading?

move it forward and bring Clooney into it!

Clooney has been my pick for years!

With Pine... is this like a Jack Ryan/High School Musical?

Please, Make it happen! Pine is the future!

if thats the case Flav then maybe he should prequel the Bourne franchise...or Die Hard...Batman...

being the future of film ISNT making a living off something that is already established.

he should star in something original and grow on that before this

This doesn't look like a good choice to me. Pine was great in Star Trek, but I don't see him as Jack Ryan... Hmm... Not sure who I would suggest, it would be intresting to see if Bradley Cooper could pull off the thriller/action genre.

As long as they potray him as a "ready, fire, aim" punk who's sh*t don't stink, then Pine is the man. I would like to see what kinda dumb ass things he did in his youth.

Pine did a good job in Star Trek...not great, good. But I think that was just good casting. The rest of the players in Star Trek delivered more in my opinion. I did like Pine's job in Smokin' Aces, but his performance fell behind a majority of his co-stars in that film.

MontoyaWA, good call. Bradley Cooper would be a solid choice.

Maybe they will go in chronological order in regards to events in the books by starting over.

Well, I personally thought he was the best part of Star Trek (besides JJ behind the camera), so I like the news. At least we will have a charismatic Ryan instead of a block of wood one (Affleck).

They should start making sequels instead of a second prequel. Clooney is a great choice, but I would like to see Ford come back for one more.

Pine is a soft wood... is it not?

Newsflash: Pine is officially the new Jack Ryan, it's confirmed.

Also confirmed: Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson have AIDS.
