Discuss: Which Movies Should Have Been Animated Instead of Live-Action?

Discuss: Which Movies Should Have Been Animated Instead of Live-Action?Submit Comment
It's always surprising to find out that a Hollywood studio is working on adapting a famous cartoon/comic book to the big screen with the goal of making it live-action. Sometimes is works out and sometimes it doesn't.

"Dragonball" turned out to be a disaster by earning only $9 million domestically. On the other hand, "Spider-Man" and "Transformers" have become some of the highest grossing films. But one can only guess what the movies would have been like if they were animated.

And we know that studios aren't afraid to go the animated route, since Pixar and DreamWorks have had much success with films like "Toy Story" and "Kung Fu Panda." So, the decision to go live-action simply comes down to the filmmakers' preference. "Where the Wild Things" will be live-action, and so will the new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie.

Question: Are there any movies that should have been animated, instead of live-action? What about the other way around?

SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY should have been live action and it could have been the sequal to returns if they did it right.

@Dead - LOL!

This is sort of a dumb question because the market is so over saturated with animated tie-ins that both live-action and animated movies are being made. Plus if a movie is ever considered for a live action treatment, it generally started as a cartoon first. The question should be "What unused property should see the silver screen?" In which case it should have been Pokemon and Big O in live action.

Dragonball was sh*t and done badly at the box office because it was the sh*ttyiest f*cking thing ever done also fans didn't watch it in the cinema because it had nothing to do with the source material. Another thing is that it wouldn't make a difference if it was animated because when you make a film just to make money off of the name people will see it for what it is. There was no heart put in the film nor was there any respect to the the material at all. As for the article it doesn't have any examples. Instead it asks the reader a question that it shouldn't ask unless it wants to give multiple examples of where things have failed. Talk about no news. Did you guys just cut and paste this off something else, thats why I can't do the same.

We already have like 17 Dragon Ball/Z feature films. It's time for live-action, but ONLY if it's done right! "Dragonball Evolution" has NOTHING to do with the manga/anime. The only things that resembles the series are the Dragon Balls and the names, that's about it. People shouldn't judge on the source material over a movie.

Super Mario should have been for sure. Ninja Turtles would be better live action if they were all like the first. They didn't take Dragon Ball seriously I don't even want to go into how it can be done because it can but it wouldn't happen because they were after a quick buck from the fans.

Speed Racer should have been animated. That p.o.s. was horrid. Would have worked well if it was CGI. Take TMNT for example. Sure the live actioners were cult-ish but the CGI one was infinitely better.

kung fu panda was pretty cool...pixar and dreamworks don't need live-action treatment...they're fine the way they have been...as for dreamworks on shrek...shrek 3 was lacking in story...it's like they ran out of ideas and went the way they thought they could only go...did anybody also notice on shrek 3, artie and fiona never talked to each other?...must have meant something there

maybe some studios will get their heads out of their ass and come to grips with reality...3D is getting overrated like remakes and reboots are nowadays...what the hell is up with that?...did some executive take acid and then poop it out and then eat it again?...i wanted to like 3D...but damn, studios sure know how to kill the fun out of things
