Writers Says "The Flash" is Moving ForwardPosted: October 7th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
A few days ago producer Charles Roven revealed that he has been trying to get DC Comics character "The Flash" to the big screen for a while now. Unfortunately, everything that he has presented to Warner Bros has been rejected.
Roven said that the studio wants to eventually develop "The Flash" movie, but the character would have to be a part of the larger DC universe that will eventually lead to a "Justice League of America" film. He added that the character is not a priority for Warners.
Now, screenwriter Dan Mazeau tells IGN that things are still moving forward as planned. "I'm still writing the script," he said. "Geoff Johns is still consulting. Flash fans have no cause for concern, and — IMO — lots to be excited about."
So it seems like Warners is still pursuing "The Flash" movie, but it has been doing so for years and there is still no script.

i don't see how this film will be any good. it's just a dude that runs fast. they better come up with a great way to film the running.

As long as Geoff Johns has a say in the plot, it will be good. Geoff is the best plot-fixer in the comic/tv business. And the film would have to be a comedy.
I hope they still have Neil Patrick Harris interested.

They had test footage from this year's comic con I think.

@dandy - The Flash can do it all. Vibrate through solid walls. Point a spotlight onto a building and run up the light beam (seriously... the accelerated dust particles). He can be in at least 2 places at the same time (thus he and Barry could be standing next to one-another even though they're the same person). It's just a matter if the writers will research all this and try to give him the juice he has. He even beat Superman in a race in World's Finest comic. But as Supes said there... it wasn't Earth so I'll say you're the Fastest Man Alive... here.
It would be fab. if the did it right. If they short sheet this movie... it'll suck to high hell.

Agreed, they better do proper research for this. Just lock a bunch of fanboys in a room for a few days and have them make a bullet list of all the cool shit the Flash can do. And why did they always make it seem like Superman could be faster than the Flash? That just discredits the Flash and makes Superman's stories suck when he doesn't use his super speed unless he's in a race where the winner receives bragging rights.

Yeah, like Ranger said, the Flash can do a lot more than just run fast. Hell, he's become one of the most powerful members of the JLA (my friend tells me). I watched the cartoon when he sped around the world just to increase the impact of the punch he was about to deliver to some badguy... epic shit man.

@ Hitodama: Chuck Norris doesn't walk on water...He swims through land!! ahahaha
And yes the Flash can be incredibly cool, I'm wondering if there will be any character development though?

The Flash actually has more character development in his books than anyone else in the JLA. Each incarnation has been through all sorts of hardship and come through with a very distinct personality.
And he's got the most absurd/awesome Rogue's Gallery. There's no way to do the film with a grim and serious tone, but I picture it doing well if it's wild and zany (like the Wachowskis' Speed Racer).

So...why write a script again?? This isn't going anywhere-

WB and DC - the biggest clusterfuck in the entire entertainment industry (and yes, I thought about Lohan in that category... but she still produces... sort of... a little bit... ugh! Fucking forget it!!!)!!!

If they have bailed on Superman. Even considering GL is in the works. Not doing anything with The Flash (clearly they're NOT doing ANYthing with him), Wonder Woman... well, same boat, different crew. The JLA movie is 10 years away minimum at this rate. WTF is WB and DC doing with their time these days?!

they're crossing their fingers and hoping Avengers is a hit. Because WB wants to copy the formula.

Well... to copy The Avengers formula, DC/WB would have to get some friggin movies off the ground. Supes (ain't happening), GL, The Flash (ain't happening), WW (ain't happening any time soon)... to BUILD to a JLA movie.
Marvel is halfway to the finish line and DC isn't even off the starting blocks. WTF?! Zac Efron has AIDS.

why would the flash HAVE to be part of the justice league? i mean yeah, it makes sense and obvs he should be...but are they even still doing that justice league movie? if not just give him his own movie

because WB knows that a Justice League movie could never fail to draw viewers, where as the Flash fanclub is smaller.
I honestly don't think Flash will happen unless the JL movie does.

Try reading "The Flash - Stop Motion" by Mark Schultz then you'll know that this character Wally West is more than just a guy who runs fast...
