Chevy Chase's "National Lampoon's Vacation" is Getting Another Sequel

New Line Cinema is developing a sequel to the 1983 comedy classic "National Lampoon's Vacation," with David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) attached to produce and possibly direct.

The studio is meeting with writers to pen the script but the take is already developed: the story focuses on Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold, the protagonists of the initial movies and portrayed by Chevy Chase. The younger Griswold is now a father in his own right and takes his family on a road trip vacation.

The characters would acknowledge that first trip, making the movie more of a sequel than a reboot.

Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, who played the mom in the original movies, will have room to make appearances as grandparents, providing a sense of continuity, though no deals are in place.

National Lampoon is not involved at this stage, as Warner Bros/New Line controls the characters and the title. The goal is to make the film more like "Planes Trains and Automobiles" or "Little Miss Sunshine" rather than "RV" or "Are We There Yet?"

Why not?

I wonder if they'll cast any of the previous Rusty Griswolds?

chevy chase was the only reason i watched national lampoon movies...well ryan reynolds had an exception too...but without chevy chase as a main character, it's just not epic at all

good luck with that, cause so far everything that has had 'National Lampoons' on it has sucked major donkey balls... I aint talking about the ones with Chevey Chase, they rocked!

Wasn't Anthony Micahel Hall the guy who played Rusty in number one, get him a chance to play again. I think thats the guy, played the Geek in Breakfast Club and Mike Engel in Dark Knight!

The first 3 Vacations were great. Vegas didn't have the heart of the others. I wouldn't mind seeing another though. Chevy is still a very funny guy.

People gave Chase too much hell for that talk show failure he tried, like it was his fault. Funny dude, though how funny would it have been if they just did a new movie with the parents as old as they are with some teenage Rusty and Audrey. Disturbing!

Should have stopped at the 3rd movie. Didn't they learn their lesson after the failed attempt at "The Cousin Eddy" movie (straight to DVD, as I recall)?

As long as tehy bring back cousin eddie, lol!!!!

Anthony Michael Hall would be a great tip of the hat to all Vacation fans.

I wouldn't even mind seeing a better sequel to Christmas Vacation where Clark and Ellen are the grandparents that come to visit Rusty at his house for the holidays and he has to put up with his dad's hijinks to make the best Christmas ever for his grandkids.

Even throw in Cousin Eddy showing up and staying in a guest house/in-law apartment and come out of the bathroom one morning and proclaim that the "sh*tter is full"...
