"Voltron" Movie is Pushing Forward

Posted: October 6th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Voltron" Movie is Pushing ForwardSubmit Comment
UTA agency is now representing World Events Productions, who own the US rights to "Voltron," that focuses on a band of five robot-lions (piloted by humans) that combine to form one giant warrior.

A "Voltron" movie has already been set up with producer Charles Roven, and UTA is expected to help bring a writer aboard and begin shopping the projects to studios.

The pitch is expected to include the idea that, unlike other toy brands, "Voltron" allows for human-centric stories. In addition to the movie, the agency also aims to expand the property into an animated cable series, video games and toy deals.

Inevitable. Do it.

This could be the death of Transformers if done right. Great storyline, and some believable CGI would make this outstanding. As long as the director learns from all Michael Bays mistakes, this could be off the hook.

There was a script a couple years ago that moved the setting to modern day Earth instead of Arus in the future.
I'd rather see it set in space.

What the f*ck is this?! Sounds like a 'Power Rangers' movie..

Maybe they should make a 'Captain Planet' movie instead, they could base it on global warming, the kiddies would love that sh*t!

I just wanna see College Humor or some other site make a cartoon that has Voltron and Devastator from TF2 in like a hot dog eating contest or something. Devastator doing that "suck up all the sand" thing and then Voltron sitting there with all five lion heads chowing down. That would be awesome.
A Voltron movie would be cool also.

@Ari man, I miss Captain Planet with his green mullet

This is gonna suck. An abomination spawned from Transformers and Power Rangers.

This has to be CGI because as a live action I can't see it. Love that Voltron though.

How in heaven's name can people say that Voltron came from Power Rangers??? Voltron (Go Lion Beast) started off in Japan in 1981 and Power Rangers (zyurangers) in 91-92. It's the other way around my friends...
Back on topic though: To make this movie successful it just needs to have a pinch of drama that the cartoon had where you weren't sure if characters were actually going to survive. Plus the Lions cannot be shiny metal. they need to look like they have been through hell and back. They are weapons of mass destruction. Also needs dramatic lighting and cannot be all bubble gum and bright lights.

Just imagine if the terrorist's were able to get their hands on one. Bedlam I tell you, bedlam.

Actually the Power Rangers are Japanese show from the 70's called SuperSentai so it's the older one.

@ Freudian - Voltron came about initially in 1981 in Japan and in 1984 in the US; roughly the same time as Transformers, but still about 9 or so years before the Power Rangers. The power Rangers were the rip-off.

If they do this live action/CGI and have a decent script, it'll be awesome.

Yes, but 'Voltron' with the spaceships, NOT the lions...

@Eddie- I don't care in which order they came out or which one is ripping off the other one, my point is that this movie gonna suck and it's reminding me of Transformers and Power Rangers.

During the evolution of TV programs about super fighting squadrons, Toei Animation Co., Ltd created both the Super Sentai Series (1975) and Golion, the original Voltron that was formed by five lions (1981). Since American production companies bought and hacked heavily edited the original Japanese "Voltron" series, Americans have seen NOTHING until they watch the original GoLion cartoon series that was created in 1981. The vehicle Voltron came AFTER the lion Voltron. From what I read, the vehicle Voltron was produced specifically for American audiences who were likely to buy toys based on the cartoon. Please note that the original GoLion is not appropriate for children.
