"Thomas the Tank Engine," "Barney" and "Bob the Builder" Movies ComingSubmit Comment
Children's book character, Thomas the Tank Engine, is heading for the big screen via HIT Entertainment, which has hired screenwriter Josh Klausner (Shrek the Third) to write a script for a feature based on the tiny-train world "Thomas & Friends" created in the 1940s.

"'Thomas & Friends' is a phenomenally successful and versatile brand that appeals to children and families worldwide," said HIT's Julia Pistor. "Generations of children have grown up with the adventures of 'Thomas & Friends' with its storytelling tradition, positive values, timeless lessons and rich train history. We look forward to working with Josh Klausner to translate the classic 'Thomas & Friends' stories into a thrilling, big, modern adventure movie."

Thomas represents the world's most popular preschool property, with more than 100 million books and wooden train accessories sold globally. HIT plans a new CGI animated TV series for next year (Thomas' 65th birthday) that will for the first time provide voices for Thomas, Percy, James, Toby and the rest, and the new film project -- a mix of live-action and CGI -- is slated for a spring 2011 release.

HIT also owns the Barney and Bob the Builder franchises. The company has launched the film division to bring those family-oriented properties to the big screen.

Que George Lucas on Indiana Jones 5 and prepare for Lucas accidential death on the train set

Thomas sounds interesting, never really cared for Bob, and Barney just needs to die.

Call it "Trainwreck Tom"... Thomas the Train has a bomb onboard and it will explode if he drops under 100mph. Ringo Starr as the mad bomber.

Damn, these are pre-school shows. I would expect you guys to be dissapointed in watching these movies. Don't be so hard on a movie geared for a two year old.

I just read, apparently they are all darker reboots (think Batman Begins) of the previous franchises. Apparently Michael Bay has signed on to direct Thomas the Tank Engine and McG has signed onto Bob The Builder.

Michael has cast Christian Bale and Shia as Thomas and Gordon. He was quoted as saying "i am really proud to bring these futuristic robots to life. We have decided to take the franchise in a darker direction, with epic battles. Think 40 trains all carrying cargo on screen at once."

However Bob the Builder has been delayed after Michael Bay claimed that McG ripped off a scene from him in which characters ride on a train. A possible lawsuit is pending.

The Rock has been cast as Barney. The plot revolves around a champion Table Tennis player who is cursed by Mayan shamans and must save parents from actually spending time with their children, by singing and dancing incessantly for all time.

Plus James Cameron has stated that he has been developing a new 3D technology for the films.

He said "i have been working on this technology for the past 15 years. The trains will actually physically come through the screen and run over your children."
