Guillermo Del Toro's Secret Announcement Revealed

Posted: September 14th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Guillermo Del ToroSubmit Comment
A few days ago, Guillermo del Toro teased that he has a big announcement to make soon and the only clues he gave were that it has nothing to do with "The Hobbit" and that "the key letter is 'D'."

After much guessing, we now know that he was talking about the partnership between him and Disney for a new label called "Disney Double Dare You," which del Toro will spearhead and use to create projects for all ages that will thrill and frighten.

"It is part of the Disney canon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic films," del Toro said. "It is my privilege for DDY to continue in this tradition."

"I look forward to coming up with fresh and original stories that will take Disney films in a whole new direction," he stated. "The emphasis is on fun, and we have some great ideas already on the storyboards."

Their first film under the Double Dare You label will be a film titled "Trollhunters," which del Toro will fit into a schedule that already includes his "Hobbit" movies.

That sounds pretty exciting, but did it really have to be kept a secret?

they stole 'double dare' from nick and called it 'double dare you'....i smell trouble....anyone remember 'doug'?...it was better on 'nick' wasn't it?...when billy west was voicing doug...sounded a lot like stimpy or fry...and then disney made a movie out of it and it had a replacement...that ruined it for me as a kid

who the hell is going to bilbo baggins!!! why can't he just announce that yet...

@ Synthetic1985... Doug was a god show lol and the movie ruined was terrible cause they did infact change the voice. Double Dare you was definitely a Nickelodeon show first... but i doubt Nick would have the gull to try and put a lawsuit against Disney...

It should be "Disney Double Douchebag" for leading on people in such a manner.

hmmm... this is a really brief announcement. He had an interview elsewhere last week where he mentioned his upcoming projects: Deadman, Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein, At the Mountains of Madness, a few others.

I'm most excited about Deadman. And I doubt there's anyone better to direct a movie starring Cthulhu.

so. he's wasting time on this that he can use to research and direct the hobbit? good job.

I don't know how some can say they're stealing 'Double Dare You' from Nickelodeon. Yeah, they had a show called 'Double Dare' and even 'Double Dare 2000', but what you're saying is that Nick invented the phrase "I double dare you!".

In all reality, Nickelodeon could have stolen the name from Alex Trebek's 1976 show of the same name.

I really don't know why I just wrote all that, but I did, so deal with it. :P
CitizenKang writes:

I wasn't aware Nickelodean could trademark a public domain phrase...Nick owns the rights to the *show* Double Dare, not the phrase itself.
