Jeff Bridges Re-Teams with Coen Brothers for "True Grit" RemakeSubmit Comment
Jeff Bridges is currently in talks with Paramount Pictures to star in the upcoming "True Grit" remake, directed by the Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men). Bridges would play the role that won John Wayne an Oscar for the 1969 original.

Story centers on a 14-year-old girl who tags along with an aging US marshal, Rooster Cogburn, and another lawman to track the outlaw who killed her father. The original told the story from Cogburn's point of view, but the new version will work from the viewpoint of the girl.

The new movie has been redrafted by the brothers to be more faithful to the Charles Portis novel on which the original film was based.

Bridges and the Coen Brothers previously worked together on the 1998 cult favorite "The Big Lebowski."

f*ck yeah man.. Bridges was always a favorite of mine, he definitely got thrown way up the ladder with lebowski... This sounds awesome.

The Ladykillers and Burn After Reading were pretty questionable in my book, but that just my opinion. All of the other Coen Bros. movies are pretty on point. I'm very eager to see Bridges team up with them again. The Big Lebowski and the original True Grit are 2 of the best films ever made so naturally I got high hopes for this remake.

He's their Deniro.
lostwarrior writes:

actually I would say that goodman or turturro are their deniro... they are in most of their films...

Dont forget about Clooney. Who needs a Deniro when you've got a Clooney? I wish they could work with Hanks again. He was the only redeeming thing about Laykillers and seems to handle their special prose well.

A western by the Coens? I'm in it!

I hope they make a Dude Marshal with a Walt cameo, maybe playing an indian, right?

This will be good but we shouldn't expect anything less from two of the most solid filmmakers in the last 20 years.

I agree with you SacDaddy but I re-watched Burn after Reading, it was much better the second time. There's something about that movie I really like, I can't put my finger on it but its oddly funny.

Burn after Reading felt like a Pulp Fiction to me without the gangsters. And I agree... it was oddly funny (well put).

I'm not a fan of remakes of movies from the past greats of Hollywood. But, I'll remain open-minded to see how this turns out.

@cjwalk36: Never really wanted to see it again but maybe I should. I didn't like seeing Frances McDormand play such a flawed character. That really bothered me after seeing her in so many commanding roles. She played it well but it takes too much of the fun out of the film for me. I'll try it again sometime though.

I wonder if this was the film the Coen's were talking about last year with Indian scalping in it...Because QT just beat them to that.

I never cared for the Dude- I don't really understand the cult attention for that film. I'd rewatch Barton Fink before that one...

@lostwarrior

Isn't Steve Buscemi there most used actor?
lostwarrior writes:
on September 11th, 2009 at 2:05:45 PM

well buscemi was in five and so was goodman but turturro was was in 4 of them so its goodman and buscemi that have been in the most cohen brother films...

I dont usually like remakes, but I'd be OK with western remakes.
There is a slew of westerns I wouldnt mind seeing redone. But True Grit is one of my absolute favourites along with the sequel Rooster Cogburn, so I wouldnt want to se it touched.
However, the Cohen Bros. and Jeff Bridges make a good combo, so I wouldnt mind seeing this. Jeff would make a good Rooster Cogburn, anybody remember his Wild Bill?
