"The Hobbit" Lawsuit is Settled

"The Hobbit" Lawsuit is SettledSubmit Comment
Last year, the heirs of JRR Tolkien threatened to stop the development of "The Hobbit" prequels by filing a lawsuit against New Line Cinema for $150 million in compensatory damages based on breach of contract, fraud and other claims. The heirs claimed that they didn't get the royalties from the estimated $6 billion that the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy earned worldwide.

It has now been revealed that the studio and the trustees of the Tolkien estate have settled, but the terms of deal are being kept confidential.

Commenting on the settlement, Christopher Tolkien said: "The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary, but are glad that this dispute has been settled on satisfactory terms that will allow the Tolkien Trust properly to pursue its charitable objectives. The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of 'The Hobbit.'"

Warner Bros' President and CEO Alan Horn said: "We deeply value the contributions of the Tolkien novels to the success of our films and are pleased to have put this litigation behind us. We all look forward to a mutually productive and beneficial relationship in the future."

Great! Now they can start or continue making a movie that holds no interest in about 76% of the movie-goer demographic.

So there's still a come-back chance here for Gary Coleman to play a rock in a field in some obscure setting during some 5 second camera pan.

Great for Gary!

Gary da Man!

"The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary"

They had to do that- that's the only thing that they respect. People are still trying to get their money from Lucas from their involvement with the first SW films...they never will get anything now..
Darth Vader never got paid...?
