Annie Leibovitz to Lose Her Entire Photo Catalog

Posted: September 7th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Annie Leibovitz to Lose Her Entire Photo CatalogSubmit Comment
It's a slow news day, so we're going a bit outside of the movie biz for this one. Photographer Annie Leibovitz is apparently in catastrophic financial trouble, which is threatening her entire catalog of iconic photos.

Similar to many other celebrities, Leibovitz got herself into deep debt and to temporarily get out of it, she put up her photo catalog (estimates at $50 million) and homes as collateral. She now has by Tuesday (September 8th) to repay $24 million before everything is confiscated and sold off. It's looking unlikely that she'll be able to raise the money in time.

Leibovitz's catalog consists of 20 years of photos that include the Rolling Stone cover featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono that was taken on the day of Lennon's death, the Vanity Fair cover featuring the naked/pregnant Demi Moore, the Vogue cover of the pregnant Brooke Shields, the Vanity Fair cover featuring nude Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, and the controversial semi-nude Miley Cyrus photos for Vanity Fair.

Leibovitz has never been good with her finances. When she was hired to shoot ads for American Express in the 1980s, it emerged she had been previously turned down by the company when applying for a credit card.

And on top of all that, she is also being sued by an Italian photographer who says that Leibovitz passed off his photos as her own in a 2009 calendar for a coffee company. He is seeking a court order to stop the images from being used and $300,000 for copyright infringement.

I love hearing about wealthy careers tanking for everyone now. Donald Trump and Bill Gates are next. We can only pray those two have some sort of mental malfunction causing them to have poor tax upkeep. Think what'd you do with a rebate that's been fattened with microsoft bankruptcy money.

So her only claim to fame is getting idiot celebrities to take their clothes off for 'high art'? I find my lack of compassion delightful.

They just recreated that photo above with John Lennon's son and a supermodel. I wonder if she took that photo. Sucks to hear when celebrities get into this type
of trouble because then it is made public. Hire financial advisers you silly bastards!

I too studied her and even though someone is talented as she is, there is no excuse for going in debt for 24 mil, especially considering who she worked with and for. She obviously got paid well for her work. Im sure she pissed away on meth, crack to shoot in her forehead,....

Alex - it's good to step outside the movie realm now and again. This was refreshing.

@Detrimental - I have always enjoyed comments shooting down the wealthy. Chances are you root for the underdog because you view yourself as one. Maybe if you took some chances out in the world, stepped outside of your jealous box and realized the people you cut down actually contribute to this world (unless you know just how many 10's of millions of $'s Trump has raised and give to charity - including the Veterans Parade every year... shut your c*cksucker, you know (and contribute sh*t). And these people had the balls to step out, be ORIGINAL and take that chance. Your jealousy is all-consuming and will keep you(rself) down. But, you gave me a chuckle with my coffee, so thank you. And before you're on me (because you seem like a finger-pointer, as you're too cowardly to look honestly into the mirror and spend your own life identifying your own failings, and getting on with YOUR life) - yeah, I've stepped out of that box, taken chances, contributed, and have been handsomely rewarded for it... so, blow me.

Back to this story...

I know something of business. I'm never as amazed of someone going into debt. What amazes me is by those that would extend this amount of CREDIT to someone... ANYone! $24mil. in loans are only granted by those that want to 'brag' (I guess) they they do 'business' with Annie.

So Annie is now in the: Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Xzibit (who am I leaving out?) Club.
Ranger writes:

@acslaterson - '...financial advisors...' are not the answer my friend. They have NO stake in your money, and they charge you whether they make you money or not (they're like getting a good/bad mechanic to work on your car... it's a crap shoot). There is MORE THAN enough education on the Internet alone. These people get to snobby or think they're too busy to watch their money and leave it in the hands of others (that didn't earn it). You can't blame their financial advisors or accountants... blame them for not taking enough interest in their own finances.

That which is left un-managed, will deteriorate.

@Cine - thank you. Not just for the comment/compliment. But for taking the time to say so. You're right... we don't always agree, but I believe we're both open-minded.

hey neil i mean ranger,(just f*cking with btw) we seem to be in the same position regarding working u know, and in any way shape or form would u ever let your finances slip by just being too busy,, me hell no, no f*cking way. regardless of how busy someone is, its just good practice to keep up and check in atleast once a week to see how finances are. Its just as simple as making a call or logging on line... She did it too herself in my opinion. and even though I to respect her talent, talented people who are successful have a more responsibilities and those do include being f*cking aware of who, how and where your money is going... in my opinion.. oh yeah gary coleman, your still a f*cking retard btw... and that is not an opinion its a fact....

@LW - Neil?!

Thx. for the post. My comments were directed towards Annie specifically. And I too think she's an amazing talent (photographer).

I have commented on the David Bowie money story before. In case anyone doesn't remember that story. Bowie's Accountant embezzled $10mil. from over 100 of David's bank accounts. At the time I didn't know that Bowie was as wealthy as he was (didn't know he was becoming a billionaire). So I asked myself... how can one lose track of $10mil?!?! Well... if you're a billionaire, it's a lot easier. To be honest, I have had my accountant email or call asking what check I wrote back when and what it was for... and have had NO idea (but there is ALWAYS a 'paper trail' - the cashed checks get returned to me. I (only) sign my checks etc. So my $'s are a LOT easier to keep track of than Bowie's... lol.

But still... these 'financial advisors' and 'accountants' know they're being watched and questioned.

What's that latest story of that 'financial advisor' that has taken people for billions (including celeb clients)?!

Too many bottom feeders out there.

But I have NEVER slammed the wealthy (business people, celebs, etc.) for their wealth (Lohan, yes, because she's a skank). As for the wealthy... most have worked very hard for it and deserve it.

I'm even a fan of Paris Hilton. She's made 1/4bil. on her own using only her family name. She could have sat on her nice, tight ass and just lived off the family wallet. But she's gone out on her own, maximized her family name and has made an industry of herself. Good for her! I don't even have jealousy issues to those that inherit wealth... it's their birthright. But it's great to see self-made people work their asses off and make it. They're fascinating stories to read.
