Tom Cruise Rejected as Heath Ledger's Replacement in "Dr. Parnassus"

Tom Cruise Rejected as Heath LedgerSubmit Comment
When Heath Ledger died half-way through the filming of "The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus," director Terry Gilliam considered not completing the film. He then decided to instead recast Ledger for the second part of the movie.

Many top Hollywood actors came forward, offering their services as a way to honor Ledger. And while Gilliam ended up hiring Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to play different versions of Ledger's character Tim, we now come to find out that Tom Cruise offered to participate in the film as well.

"I'm not sure if it was Tom or his agent (who put Cruise forward for the role)," Gilliam told Total Film magazine. "I know there was a period when Tom's agents were keen. The thing is, I was only interested in people who were friends of Heath. Simple as that. I wanted to keep it in the family."

Eat it, Tom Cruise!

I don't think it would have worked, anyway. Frankly, Jude Law looked out of place in the trailer.

No sh*t. The only film the guy directed worth watching twice is 12 Monkeys.

And Tideland is just an imaginatively perverted and decadent film.

I really don't like you, but I really don't want to start an argument with you either..

Was that a serious comment? How about Monty Python? Or Brazil... How about The Fisher King or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?... Time Bandits?... Like pretty much everything he's done... I can understand how someone wouldn't like his last couple of movies but Gilliams body of work speaks for itself...

Moviehater Steve is right, it is Tony. Beat me to it lol.

Terry Gilliam is a pretty good director and extremely well respected too. Sometimes his ideas get a little away from him though. Still greatly appreciate his work though.

I think Tom wishes he were Jack in Brokeback Mt. and that Heath (Ennis) was nailing him from behind shooting a load up his rectum. The Imagainarium of Dr. Parn-ass-us!

"I really don't like you, but I really don't want to start an argument with you either.."

Then, why are you replying to my post.

And yes, I am serious. I've seen a number of his films, and sure they're imaginative, but am I ever compelled to rewatch any of them, save 12 Monkeys? No, no I am not.

12 monkeys was cool, but f*ck Terry Gilliam, like Tom cruise needs to be in his movie he's a big star
minkowski writes:

@Spooky: Alex has enbabled HTML, either by default, or deliberately.

Minkowski says Terry Gilliam is overrated!

I'm counting the seconds till it's disabled.
triggax writes:

"Then, why are you replying to my post"

So does that mean if I reply to your post I have no choice but to argue with you?...

Im not concerned that you didn't like anything but 12 monkeys.. thats fine.. I just don't know a lot of people that find him overrated... It just made me do a double take..
Really though?

Even the Holy Grail?...
minkowski writes:
on September 4th, 2009 at 10:19:54 PM

I'm simply not a big fan of his Pythonesque films, for sure. Holy Grail, Time Bandits, Brazil, Munchausen...

Other films of his, Like Fear and Loathing, aren't my 'cup of tea', as that stupid phrase goes. I couldn't care less about Hunter S. Thomson, his life or his death. He can gonzo his ass off wherever the f*ck he went when he died.

Brothers Grimm was more acceptable to me, but I'm not inclined to toss the thing into the player any time soon. Regardless, I've now seen it twice, but once against my will.

And it's difficult for me to accept he did 12 Monkeys.

Does he make bad movies? No, of course not, but I just don't care for them. If I had to rate them more objectively, they'd receive higher marks, of course, but when I talk about what films I like, it's all subjective, no real standards of film criticism, just "I like it" and that's it, really. 12 Monkeys, a Gilliam film I've said I enjoyed, wouldn't necessarily get the highest marks either, if rated objectively based on film standards, whereas other films of his, films I don't care for, would get higher marks. Again that's if they're measured objectively according to some sort of film standard.

The vast majority of bullsh*t I throw in the DVD player I never want to see again. I watched some godawful Kathleen Turner movie last night, V.I. Warshawski or some sh*t, and it's just another film, a recent example, that I'll never watch again. But I digress.
triggax writes:
on September 4th, 2009 at 10:32:43 PM

I guess...

I always disliked The Brothers Grimm the most of his films.

Though I do see where you're coming from, there really isn't a lot in the Gilliam library that I would care for repeated viewings, I did enjoy Fear and Loathing enough for repeated viewings, though it was more the performances and the comedy in the film that drew me back to it..

I Would have to agree as well that 12 Monkeys is, well, whether it's his best film or not, it is my obvious favorite, for a number of reasons... Mostly again the performances really did it for me...
Same with the Fisher King, as much as i cant stand Robin Williams, I really thought he did a stand up job, as well as Bridges, who im an enormous fan of..

Takes all kinds I suppose.
triggax writes:
on September 4th, 2009 at 10:37:33 PM

VI Warshawski...

I have heard that name... in so long...

I can't believe you actually had the DVD?... Local 30 cent bin?
triggax writes:

haven't***
minkowski writes:
on September 4th, 2009 at 10:45:35 PM

Actually, no, they wanted fifteen bucks for the damned thing. Seeing as how I didn't have the movie, and the only Kathleen Turner film I could recall seeing was Romancing the Stone, I picked it up. Not to digress again, as this comment is straying farther and farther from the topic, but...the script is total sh*t.

And V.I. was directed by the guy that's currently wrapping up the film The Legend of Awesomest Maximus. Buwahahaha!
