Viggo Mortensen's "The Road" Clips

Today we have over ten minutes of clips from the upcoming Viggo Mortensen film "The Road," which is based on Cormac McCarthy's bestseller. Check out the clips by clicking on the link below.

In the movie, a father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food and each other.

"The Road" is directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition) and is set to appear at the Toronto Film Festival in a few days. It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16th.

This movie looks great. I love SCI-FI where the world goes to hell and peoples true nature comes out!

The Road is the farthest thing from SciFi...

It's not sci-fi, lawman.

Lawman must of thought he was watching a Star Wars movie or something. Sci-fi, lol.

I am seriously looking forward to this film, and yes it qualifies as sci-fi. It's fiction based on a scientific premises.

It's sci-fi, because it is a part of the post-apocalyptic sub-genre.

f*ck hyphens!

Well, I think it is Sci-Fi. But i am sure somone one here is dying to school me on how it is not. Somone is just chomping at the bit to empart their knowledge on me.

Impart. Damn it.

How would it be science fiction? There's no science in the damned film. Not one ounce. None, zero, nada. No f*cking ray guns, no aliens, no space ships or time machines. Just a dry tale of a father and his on as they move through a ruined world.

Yeah, it's situated in the future, and that's the only quality of the book that makes it remotely science fiction. And yes, I'm aware of the defintion of science fiction, but when you include books and films that are set in a possible future, they usually have some sort of focus on technology, aka the science side of the science fiction. I mean, if this is science fiction, the Road that is, then The Postman is science fiction. And I just don't see that at all.

Stephen King's 'It' could be described as science fiction, rather than horror, but it almost never is described that way. Alien from space, alternate time line, et cetera. Hell, a case could be made that 'It' is far more science fiction than The Road, and yet, 'It' is always listed as horror.

Technically, The Road is in a sub-genre of SF appropriately labeled 'apocalyptic fiction', but I and others disagree with this, or else why have the f*cking 'science' in science fiction? There's no science there. Anyway, sci-fi is a mess of sub-genre sh*t that has no home of its own, and thus is lumped in with standard science fiction.

And as seen above, I have NOT been dissapointed!!
minkowski writes:

It's sci-fi, because it is a part of the post-apocalyptic sub-genre.

Looks like someone has been reading Wikipedia too.

And it still isn't science fiction because there isn't one damned bit of science in The Road. Not one damned bit.

It's like saying a Cornish game hen is really a turkey, just because no one knows what the hell 'Cornish' means exactly.

The Road deserves its own damned genre. Get the f*ck out of SF. Thank you.

And AshTrey, learn to f*cking type without all capitalizations. You look like a f*cking moron.
