Trailer: Chow Yun-Fat's "Confucius" Biopic

Posted: September 4th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Trailer: Chow Yun-FatSubmit Comment
Chow Yun-Fat's (Pirates of the Caribbean, Dragonball Evolution) upcoming "Confucius" biopic started filming at the end of March in Beijing and we already have a trailer for it. Check it out below.

Confucius was a famous Chinese philosopher, who was born Kong Qiu in 551 BC and died in 479 BC. He was the second son of a minor aristocratic family that had fallen from power and as a result, Confucius was orphaned as a child and grew up in relative poverty. A voracious reader, he educated himself, eventually becoming a private tutor for the sons of wealthy gentlemen.

Distressed by the division of China into fiercely competitive and often warring states, Confucius, like many other thinkers of his era, devoted much time to pondering ways to restore order to the chaotic world in which he lived. For a decade beginning when he was about 55, Confucius wandered through neighboring states, attempting to convince various rulers of his worthiness for political positions through which he could introduce his planned reforms. Confucius was able to gather a substantial number of students who devoted themselves to his school of thought. Though it has been described as a religion, Confucianism is more of a political and social philosophy based on humanism, rationality, education, and virtuous example.

After Dragonball Evolution, I really dont want to see this guy act anymore. The eighties are over Chow Yun Fat, if your not going to reprise the role of officer tequila we dont want to see you again.

Hmmm VDODSON... intelligent comment. Just for your information: Hard Boiled was not made in the 80's. He did tons of great classic movies. 1 Dragonball doesn't change that. Someone who played in 'The Killer', 'A Better Tomorrow', 'God of Gamblers' and 'Crouching Tiger' will always be a God.

But I think a movie about a philosopher requires some braincells... pity ;-)

I took a Taoism class last summer and learned a lot about Confucianism in the process. I will go see this.

God Dragonball Evo was so freaking bad. I would have to agree VDODSON.

@meme - will have to agree with their comment as almost every renowned actor has participated in one bad film; so to pigeonhole chow yun fat in with a stereotype of bad films is incredibly biased as well as superbly ignorant.

but this film looks like it will be more of a celebration of asian heritage for it to be completely welcomed in mainstream media, but will be interesting to watch a film with the actor extending his portfolio from rather than just martial arts films - especially considering confuscious being a pacifist

Hmm looks very low budget and low quality. It probably will be an average film, easily forgotten. Chow Yun Fat will probably put in a good performance, but agreed, if he's not playin Inspector Tequila then its not truly worth my time or money. The trailer was just 3 minutes of still shots practically and some stock trailer music, no dialogue or anything. I mean I understand its a biopic, but lets see the acting chops we gotta deal with. It really was just Chow Yun-Fat turning around with different colored hair and beard. If maybe they had gotten Ang Lee or Zhang Yimou to direct then it would have a better chance, but this wont amount to anything

Even though its a drama, John Woo woulda made a better film
